Position: Nuclear Engineer
Location: Chesapeake, VA
Compensation: Based on Experience
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate new engineering concepts to address various nuclear technical challenges.
- Develop processes for nuclear remediation and make decisions on the disposition of radiological material.
- Research and analyze administrative and fiscal policies, procedures, or practices to manage technical problems.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, guidelines, and specifications in the evaluation of nuclear processes.
- Facilitate the planning of short- and long-range goals related to nuclear engineering.
- Independently solve highly technical problems involving complex features typical of advanced nuclear components or systems.
- Utilize demonstrated knowledge of naval nuclear propulsion engineering to consult and serve as an expert in the field.
- Perform professional engineering and scientific work, focusing on training, processes, instruments, and systems used in nuclear-powered submarines, aircraft carriers, and moored training ships.
- Develop detailed plans, including hand and computer analysis, for complex systems or modifications.
- Provide technical review and evaluation of design proposals submitted by others.
- Conduct engineering studies to determine system requirements, modifications, repairs, or specifications.
- Evaluate operations, equipment, and activities to develop solutions for project testing and certification objectives.
- Lead design engineers and/or engineering technicians for the design of projects involving new or modified structural, mechanical, or hydraulic systems for U.S. Navy vessels.
Requirements:
- Obtain and maintain a security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- Successfully complete a pre-employment drug test, including marijuana.
- Wear personal protective equipment continuously during work shifts.
- Participate in medical surveillance programs due to exposure to physical and chemical agents.
- Perform work onboard ships.
- Be willing to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a school with at least one ABET-accredited program, or equivalent education and experience.
- Alternatively, a combination of education and experience demonstrating thorough knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering.
- Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE) is advantageous.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or equivalent written test may be considered.
- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences may be acceptable.
- Related curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in a scientific field may be accepted with at least 1 year of professional engineering experience.
