Research Associate


NextVivo is an ambitious start-up company, located in Stanford Research Park. We are leveraging the power of human derived immune organoids, invented by our co-founders Calvin Kuo and Mark Davis at Stanford University, to develop breakthrough cancer cell therapies. ALI organoid technology allows us to retain the complex physiological structure of a tumor sample, including the full repertoire of immune cells found in the microenvironment. Our system is the first physiologically relevant model of the interactions between tumor cells and immune cells from individual patient samples in a dish. We aim to develop more effective therapies to patients faster and safer without the need for animal models.


Job Summary:


As a Research Associate at NextVivo, you will be part of a small team of talented scientists working together to generate and assess tumor-derived immune cells, using our unique organoid platform. You will play a pivotal role in conducting experimental research and analyzing data. Your laboratory work will be focused on establishing and maintaining human tissue and cell cultures and testing resulting organoids and immune cells for phenotype and function. Participation in regular discussions and presentations, exposure to the latest technologies, and involvement in our multifaceted research projects will provide plenty of opportunities to deepen your scientific knowledge and learn about the many aspects of drug development. Your work will be a valuable contribution to the progress of novel immunotherapies for cancer.


We Are Seeking:


We are seeking a bright, curious, self-motivated, and dependable Research Associate with a background in immunology who has a deep interest in experimental work and is enthusiastic by the fast-paced environment of an early start-up. The ideal candidate will also be conscientious, have strong interpersonal skills and work ethic. This individual will be teachable and eager to learn new skills and desire the understanding behind their work. This Research Associate must be able to work independently, while meaningfully contributing to our collective goal. Key Responsibilities:

·      Conduct laboratory experiments according to established protocols and procedures.

·      Prepare reagents, solutions, and samples for experimentation.

·      Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures, data, and observations.

·      Analyze experimental data using various techniques and software tools.

·      Assist in the development and optimization of experimental protocols.

·      Troubleshoot experimental procedures and equipment issues as needed.

·      Collaborate with team members to design experiments and interpret results.

·      Stay informed about current developments in the field of biotechnology.

·      Contribute to the preparation of scientific reports, presentations, and publications.

·      Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols in laboratory environment.

·      Participate in team meetings, discussions, and brainstorming sessions to exchange ideas and plan research projects.

·      Support other research activities and initiatives as directed by supervisors or project leaders.


Qualifications:

1.   BS/MS degree in Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field.

2.   Previous laboratory experience in a research setting, preferably in biotechnology or a related discipline, preferred.

3.   Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.

4.   Ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.

5.   Strong communication skills, including the ability to present data findings clearly and concisely.

6.   Proficiency in using standard computer software for data analysis and presentation.

7.   Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic research environment with evolving priorities and timelines.

8.   Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry techniques.

9.   Proficiency in aseptic techniques, cell culture, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and other common laboratory procedures, preferred.

10. Experience with advanced analytical techniques such as flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, or next-generation sequencing is desirable. 

11. Familiarity with bioinformatics is a plus.

12. Must be open-minded; willing to explore and acknowledge different ideas, perspectives, and concepts.
