Bridgewater Consulting Group (BCG) is a management consulting firm for the utilities industry (gas, water, electric). The BCG Principal Enterprise Architect will work with BCG’s energy & utilities clients and technology partners to plan, design, and implement projects with complex system integration requirements.


The Principal Enterprise Architect is responsible for defining, upholding, and promoting the vision of the IT architecture and solutions across all information systems. The position will be responsible for ensuring best practice of the overall and strategic design, development, testing and implementation of information solutions. The position will work closely with client Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects, Business Analysts and Project Managers and operational support teams. In particular, they will guide and support the delivery of new IT solutions making sure the new technology platforms are appropriately used. The architect will leverage their technical skills and experience to develop cost effective, timely solutions to meet our client’s functional and performance requirements while focusing on reuse.


The Principal Enterprise Architect is responsible for not only ensuring client portfolio functions reliably, but the role also helps plan for the future state of our client’s information systems portfolio. The role requires a very strong collaboration with BCG leadership, our client’s, and their IT leadership. The person will be responsible for helping drive application, infrastructure, communications and security industry standards and best practices; performing cost benefit tradeoff analysis; keeping current with industry trends and emerging technologies; provide guidance and direction to the various development, customer, and business groups on infrastructure and security technology standards that drive quality and performance and support the strategic plan; and ensure that applications, infrastructure and security needs are architected for total scalability and performance.


The ideal candidate will have a long track record for successfully delivering the following projects for the energy & utilities industry, including, but not limited to: customer relationship management, billing, digital customer experience, meter data management, distribution management, outage management, grid/smart meter operations, grid & customer analytics, information governance, cybersecurity & data privacy, field area networks, et al.


Responsibilities:

Provides overall direction, guidance, and definition of IT architecture to effectively support client’s business strategy.

Supports all architectural disciplines and champions’ architectural client engagements.

Reviews existing client business processes and establishes metrics to improve business processes for BCG Clients.

Partner with BCG leadership in participating in meetings, development of proposals and other efforts related to Solution Design and Business Development

Create work plans, pricing estimates, and risk assessments for new opportunities

Actively listen and be aware of potential SOW extensions, SOW change orders, and potential new opportunities. This includes notifying and keeping BCG Leadership of such activities.

Establishes and oversees the growth of the architecture team

Leads client engagements responsible for the development, maintenance, and governance of enterprise architecture across.

Works on highly complex engagements that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized architecture domains.

Aligns architecture strategy with business goals.

Defines, explains, and advocates technology strategy.

Develops and communicates architectural policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.

Promotes the EA process, outcomes, and results to clients and their executive leadership.

Leads and facilitates the creation of governing principles to guide EA decision making.

Leads the EA governance processes.

Manages exceptions to architectural standards at an enterprise level.

Reviews and/or analyzes and develops architectural requirements as needed for client engagements.

Ensures the conceptual completeness of technical solutions.

Leads teams in developing technology plans.

Approves modification of the enterprise architecture to accommodate project needs.

Provides strategic consultation to BCG clients.

Advises on options, risks, costs versus benefits, system impacts, and technology priorities.

Works with client business leaders to understand business requirements and help them understand how technology tradeoffs influence strategy.

Consults with project teams to fit projects to enterprise architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture.

Develops a communication plan for architecture at the enterprise level.

Directs the research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry, and market trends.

Ensures recommendations are based on business relevance, appropriate timing, and deployment.

Approves the tools and components used within the enterprise.

Collaborates with project management and BCG leaders to ensure progress towards architectural alignment with project goals and requirements.

Defines the skills, competencies in the skills, and talents for architecture related resources, and works with human resources to acquire (as needed) resources.



Requirement:

Bachelor’s or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, related field or equivalent work experience

Fifteen + years of IT and business/industry work experience including architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management, and infrastructure planning and operations.

Leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders.

Requires exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.

Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture, business re-engineering principles and processes, and basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting
