A trial paralegal, also known as a litigation paralegal, plays a crucial role in supporting attorneys throughout the trial process. Their responsibilities encompass various tasks before, during, and after trials to ensure efficient case management and successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Trial Preparation:
  • Conducting thorough legal research and initial case assessments.
  • Drafting and filing pleadings, motions, and appellate documents with the court.
  • Organizing and managing case files, including exhibits, documents, and evidence.
  • Assisting attorneys with discovery processes, such as preparing interrogatories and other discovery requests.
  • Coordinating with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather pertinent information.
  • Trial Support:
  • Preparing trial binders and organizing exhibits for courtroom presentation.
  • Assisting attorneys during voir dire and jury selection.
  • Managing logistics during trials, including coordinating with court personnel and handling exhibits.
  • Taking detailed notes and managing trial transcripts.
  • Post-Trial Activities:
  • Assisting in the preparation and filing of post-trial motions and appeals.
  • Organizing and archiving case files and trial materials.
  • Coordinating with clients regarding case outcomes and next steps.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or a related field.
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited program.
  • 3+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal, with significant trial experience.
  • Proficiency in legal research and familiarity with legal databases.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
