Embedded Software/Sr Firmware Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced Embedded Firmware Consultant for a temporary engagement lasting 12 to 18 months, with a strong opportunity to transition into a full-time role. This is a hybrid position, requiring in-office presence at least 2 days per week. Local candidates are preferred, but we’re open to discussing flexible arrangements for those able to commute periodically. You will collaborate closely with our engineering team to develop and debug firmware for embedded systems using the STM32H743 microprocessor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement firmware for handling internal flash memory operations, including erase, write, and read functionalities.
- Design and adapt Command Line Interface (CLI) functions for command-based communication.
- Develop digital input/output functions for controlling LEDs, buttons, relays, and other peripherals.
- Implement and adapt UART (RS-485) drivers with DMA support for robust communication.
- Design and debug USB CDC (serial communication) functions, adapting them for CLI functionality.
- Perform physical firmware upgrades through a USB type-C connector.
- Implement and manage RTC (Real-Time Clock) and backup register functions.
- Develop and test LCD driver functionalities and basic graphical interfaces.
- Design and implement analog input/output functions (ADC/DAC) for data acquisition and control.
- Develop firmware for external storage flash (SPI) operations, including read, write, and erase functionalities.
- Design and implement external flash (QSPI) bootup functions, including the transition to external QSPI EXI bootup processes.
- Utilize external SDRAM for memory management in complex applications.
- Develop and implement bootloader functionalities, ensuring seamless application transitions and jumping to memory addresses of running applications.
- Experiences with freeRTOS base programming like multi-tasking programming.
- Experiences with internet communication application programming with HTTP/MQTT protocol based on LwIP(TCP/IP/UDP).
- Experiences with middle-ware stack porting like LwIP, any file system on microprocessor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
- At least 8 years of experience in embedded firmware development, particularly with the STM32H743 microprocessor, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
- Experience with memory management in embedded systems, including flash memory operations (SPI/QSPI, SDRAM).
- Hands-on experience with communication protocols such as UART (RS-485) and USB CDC.
- Familiarity with developing CLI functions for embedded systems.
- Experience in implementing and debugging RTC and backup register functions.
- Prior experience in LCD driver development and handling analog signals using ADC/DAC.
- Solid understanding of bootloaders and firmware upgrade processes, particularly through USB type-C.
- Familiar with HTTP/MQTT programming and testing.
- Familiar with freeRTOS base programming and debugging.
- Ability to work independently, with strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Must be able to work on-site at least 2 days per week. Local candidates preferred, but we are open to discussing flexible arrangements for those able to commute periodically.
Preferred:
- Experience in the development and adaptation of DMA (Direct Memory Access) for UART drivers.
- Knowledge of best practices in embedded system design and firmware architecture.
- Experience in the HTTP/MQTT protocol programming.
- Experiences with freeRTOS multi-taking programming.
