As the Director of Product Design and Innovation, you will lead a dynamic team responsible for developing cutting-edge products that will redefine performance and efficiency in the rail industry. In this key leadership position, you’ll drive our product development strategy, guide innovation efforts, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn visionary concepts into reality.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Inspire and Lead: Champion and manage a talented design engineering team across multiple locations, ensuring that resources are strategically allocated to fast-track the product development cycle.
  • Fuel Innovation: Spearhead breakthrough projects, guiding them from concept to market launch using a stage-gate process that fuels creativity and innovation at every step.
  • Cultivate Creativity: Foster a dynamic, forward-thinking culture that embraces agility and continuous improvement, empowering your team to push the boundaries of engineering.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Partner closely with sales, marketing, and operations teams to ensure that our product designs not only meet but exceed customer expectations and market demands.
  • Pioneer R&D Initiatives: Lead cutting-edge R&D projects to create the next generation of railroad parts and components, keeping us ahead of industry trends.
  • Build Strong Partnerships: Act as the key liaison with strategic customers and the Association of American Railroads (AAR) to drive successful validation testing and seamless execution of the PPAP process.
  • Accelerate Project Delivery: Optimize engineering resources to guarantee on-time delivery of projects while minimizing development timelines and maximizing efficiency.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Use key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress and make informed, data-backed decisions that shape the future of product development.
  • Ensure Project Success: Lead stage-gate reviews and use advanced project management tools to ensure each project meets deadlines and stays on budget, all while delivering exceptional results.
  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Continuously anticipate and explore emerging market trends and customer needs, driving product design strategies that keep us at the forefront of the industry.


Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (required); advanced degree in a related field is a plus.
  • 10-15 years of product development experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in product development of metal parts and components, preferably within the rail industry.
  • Expertise in leading new product development (NPD) initiatives and commercializing products successfully.
  • Experience in managing engineering teams and R&D efforts in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
