The incumbent will serve as a Teaching Assistant in the Education Department within a juvenile correctional facility. This position involves supervising students in the absence of the classroom teacher, ensuring a conducive learning environment, and supporting classroom instruction as needed. Reporting directly to the School Principal, the Teaching Assistant performs duties with minimal supervision, promoting a positive and safe educational setting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students in the classroom when the teacher is absent.
  • Monitor attendance, behavior, assignment progress, and daily records.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in completing teacher-assigned tasks.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and a positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance students' educational experience.
  • Operate all job-related equipment efficiently.
  • Attend faculty and professional meetings as required.
  • Write and contribute to multidisciplinary treatment team reports.
  • Follow critical incident policies to prevent injuries, escapes, or property damage.
  • Develop and submit clear, accurate reports in compliance with policies.
  • Promote positive working relationships with students, staff, and external partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Successfully complete all required training and certifications.


Job Requirements:

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma required.
  • Ability to implement and execute daily and weekly lesson plans in the absence of a teacher.
  • Create a learning environment conducive to individual student growth.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in working as part of a team.
  • Capability to maintain and manage educational supplies and tools.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and supervision.

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Possession of a substitute teaching permit.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting.

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass all required drug tests.
  • Successfully complete all required training and certifications.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a structured environment.
