Our primary goal is building predictive models that can foresee the development of drug resistance in clinical bacterial infections, ultimately improving patient outcomes and combating the growing threat of antibiotic resistance. We are a small team looking to move fast and make a big impact.


Summary: We are seeking an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing machine learning models that are crucial to our mission of predicting drug resistance in bacterial infections. This is a high-ownership role with significant autonomy and input as your expertise will directly influence the development of life-saving diagnostic tools. Your work will involve working with complex biological and clinical data, implementing state-of-the-art machine learning techniques, and working directly with the CTO, data scientist, and data engineer.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Develop and optimize machine learning models, including supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, to analyze biological and clinical data.

·      Collaborate with data scientists to design, develop, and scale predictive models using input from various biological and clinical variables.

·      Evaluate different modeling architectures for performance.

·      Optimize code for performance and scalability in a large-scale data environment.

·      Ensure that all models and workflows comply with data security and privacy regulations, particularly concerning Protected Health Information (PHI).

·      Continuously monitor and improve the performance of deployed models.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·      Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.

·      3+ years of experience in machine learning engineering or a similar role in a production environment, preferably in a healthcare or biomedical setting.

·      Proficiency in R and Python, including libraries such as the Tidyverse, Tidymodels, Pandas, Numpy, Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.

·      Strong experience with supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, particularly in a bioinformatics or healthcare setting.

·      Experience with dimensionality reduction techniques and large-scale data processing.

·      Expertise in data wrangling and preparing data for machine learning models.

·      Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

·      Knowledge of data security best practices and compliance with PHI regulations.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·      5+ years of experience in machine learning engineering or a similar role in a production environment.

·      Experience in the healthcare or biomedical industry. Experience working with common bioinformatics filetypes (e.g. FASTQ, BAM, VCF)

·      Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.

·      Domain expertise in microbial genomics and/or antibiotic resistance.

·      Experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS, for deploying and managing machine learning models.

·      Familiarity with data governance frameworks and best practices.
