Matura Farrington is supporting a well established Downtown LA law firm in their search for a skilled and detail-oriented Docketing Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of the firm's docketing department. This individual will ensure the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of all docketing activities while managing a team of docketing clerks. The ideal candidate will bring exceptional organizational, leadership, and communication skills, along with expertise in legal docketing systems and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and oversee all docketing department operations, ensuring deadlines and court rules are adhered to in a timely and accurate manner.
- Manage and mentor the docketing team, providing training, performance evaluations, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Maintain and update the firm's docketing system to track court deadlines, filing requirements, and other critical dates.
- Review and ensure accuracy of all docket entries, correspondence, and case data entered by the team.
- Monitor compliance with applicable federal, state, and local court rules, as well as firm policies and procedures.
- Act as a liaison between attorneys, paralegals, and other staff regarding docketing-related inquiries, updates, and training.
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the docketing department.
- Provide periodic reports on departmental metrics, including workflow, accuracy, and staffing needs.
- Stay updated on changes in court rules and regulations, and communicate these changes to the relevant teams.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal docketing, preferably in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local court rules and procedures.
- Proficiency in legal docketing software (e.g., CompuLaw, ProLaw, or similar).
- Excellent organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under strict deadlines.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to train and develop staff.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, staff, and external parties.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of identifying and resolving issues independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with litigation docketing in a mid-to-large-sized law firm environment.
- Familiarity with e-filing systems and processes in state and federal courts.
- Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification is a plus.
