Director of Software Engineering (Robotics)


Salary on offer $220k PA. Relocation available. 1-2 days per week on site


As Director of Software Engineering, you will spearhead both the strategic and tactical aspects of our client’s software development initiatives, guiding the robotics software team and driving the exceptional performance of their innovative fleet of robots. Your leadership will steer a team of specialists committed to advancing a meticulously organized codebase and trailblazing revolutionary robot functionalities, introducing novel features and services for our clientele, and developing operational support tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the CTO to transform strategic objectives and metrics into actionable software strategies and implementations.
  • Empower, mentor, oversee, and guide the team as they tackle complex real-world challenges related to perception, localization, navigation, path planning, and manipulation.
  • Foster communication and collaboration across interdisciplinary teams to devise solutions, prototype testing, and troubleshoot field performance.
  • Coordinate the software deployment pipeline to the production environment, providing support to the operations team during deployments and testing phases.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on software performance metrics and their impact.
  • Effectively manage and align stakeholder expectations both within the team and across the company.


Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of professional experience in full-stack software development or management within fields such as autonomous navigation, robotics, or related areas, with a preference for proficiency in C++ and ROS.
  • Demonstrated expertise in custom hardware and integration, navigation, motor controllers, arm planning, camera implementation, and image acquisition.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant field; a Master of Science degree is advantageous.
  • 2+ years of direct experience in managing and coaching teams of 10 or more individuals in the realm of production software development.
  • Familiarity with Python, experience using ROS2, and proficiency with AWS.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment; prior startup involvement is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, encompassing troubleshooting, data analysis, and optimizing code execution timing. Excellent communication skills, driven by results, and capable of consistently meeting or surpassing deadlines.
