Job Title: WLAN Engineer

Location: East Peoria, IL (Onsite)


Job Summary:

As a WLAN Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of wireless network infrastructure to meet the connectivity needs of our organization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of wireless technologies and provide ongoing support to maintain network performance and security.


Key Responsibilities:


Network Design: Design and architect WLAN solutions based on organizational requirements and industry best practices. This includes site surveys, RF planning, capacity planning, and network topology design.

Implementation: Deploy WLAN infrastructure including access points, controllers, and related network equipment. Configure and optimize wireless networks for optimal performance and coverage.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to WLAN performance, connectivity, and security. Conduct thorough analysis of network traffic and performance metrics to identify and address root causes of problems.

Security: Implement security measures to protect WLAN infrastructure from unauthorized access, attacks, and vulnerabilities. This includes encryption, authentication mechanisms, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.

Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of WLAN configurations, network diagrams, and operational procedures. Ensure documentation is kept up-to-date and accessible to relevant stakeholders.

Collaboration: Collaborate with other IT teams, including network engineers, system administrators, and security specialists, to integrate WLAN infrastructure with existing systems and services.

Testing and Validation: Conduct testing and validation of WLAN solutions to ensure compliance with performance, reliability, and security standards. Perform periodic audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.

Training and Support: Provide training and support to end-users and IT staff on WLAN technologies, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques. Act as a subject matter expert for WLAN-related inquiries and escalations.

Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Certifications such as Cisco CCNA Wireless, CWNP (Certified Wireless Network Professional), or equivalent are highly desirable.

Solid understanding of WLAN technologies, standards (e.g., 802.11ac, 802.11ax), and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS).

Proficiency in WLAN planning and design tools (e.g., Ekahau, AirMagnet) and network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark).

Experience with WLAN hardware and software platforms from vendors such as Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus, or Ubiquiti.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Experience:


3+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and supporting WLAN infrastructure in enterprise environments.

Hands-on experience with WLAN deployment projects including large-scale deployments, campus networks, and indoor/outdoor environments.
