Position Summary
The Land Technician position is part of a two-person team comprised of a Landman and Land Tech who work in a regional area together. The Land Tech is responsible for duties like researching status of acreage in connection with lease offers and other proposed transactions, preparing lease agreements (including creating property description exhibits) for review by Land and/or Legal, preparing agreement summaries, setting up a variety of agreement types in Quorum Land System, researching and calculating Royalty and Working Interest percentages for the company’s property ownership, processing lease bonus checks and reviewing, monitoring and making recommendations to monthly eCalendar items, ensuring that documents are properly routed for execution and proper filing according to the company's records management policies and procedures, and other duties that may arise to be performed at the determination and direction of the Director, Land in collaboration with the area Landman and, as necessary, Land Administration.
In This Role, You Will
- Work hand-in-hand with area Landman to manage Land functions of an assigned geographic area
- Work closely with Land Administration, and other departments as necessary, to contribute to and improve effective communication across departments
- Work with other Land Techs, Landmen, GIS, and Land Administration in ongoing, collective efforts of these departments to create consistency and capture policies and procedures in writing
- Research and assist Landman in determining prescription dates of BSM minerals in Louisiana
- Work with Land Tech team and Director - Land Administration, with input from Director, Land where necessary, to determine best practices and appropriate division of duties for the following:
- Research and produce reports reflecting title to, availability of, and details surrounding minerals on which lease inquiries or offers to lease have been made, and about exploration, joint operation, seismic or similar agreements in assigned regional area
- Prepare appropriate forms and agreements including any property description exhibits for leases and other agreements negotiated by Landman in assigned regional area
- Calculate and validate Royalty and Working Interest percentages based on available information.
- Provide assistance for payout tracking and tracking reversionary interests
- Assist Landman to ensure timely organization and set up of initial completed lease and contract files and to ensure timely routing of same, again working with Land Admin and Land Records to determine best practices
- Review monthly eCalendar Payment, Obligation and Expiration calendars and make initial recommendations based on available information
- Generate reports and maps, pull files, scan documents, and perform other tasks as necessary to support land management efforts in assigned region
- Analyze and set up agreements as required in Quorum Land System (QLS)
- Work with Lease team and Land Admin to determine best methods to obtain necessary information and monitor activity to ensure that lessees are complying with lease terms, e.g. notice of shutting-in wells, monitor shut-ins, ensure all lease maintenance payments received (shut-in and minimum royalty payments)
- Identify innovative ways to work and improvements to current work practices that will increase efficiencies and improve communications, both within the Land Department and across other teams
What We Require
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of land- technician experience
- Experience with Louisiana assets required.
- Experience in Quorum preferred
- Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated abilities in problem-solving
- Must be adept and possess the knowledge and ability to accurately calculate Royalty and Working Interest percentages, and the ability to read/interpret maps, graphs and legal documents
- Precise computation skills and rapid problem-solving ability
- Highly developed knowledge of computer software including experience with calculations, VLOOKUPs and pivot tables in Excel.
- Solid interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a small team environment as well as with external parties
- Ability to function independently and self-motivated
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and comply with stated deadlines
- Good understanding of oil and gas and mineral leasing and other types of oil and gas agreements, e.g. farmouts
- Attention to detail
