WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Senior Platform Engineer specializing in AWS Cloud technologies, you will work with our cross-functional engineering team to design, build, and maintain systems and applications that power our products and services. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the scalability, security, and performance of our backend systems while adhering to best practices across a variety of architectures, including serverless, containerized, and traditional virtual machine-based environments.


This is a hybrid role with the expectation that you will be required to work from our offices in Herndon, Virginia; St. Louis, Missouri; or St. Paul, Minnesota to occasionally support on-site requirements while also communicating and collaborating with a remote team distributed across the US. 

Below are some of the responsibilities a Senior Platform Engineer is expected to assume in their position:  

Responsibilities:

  • DevOps 
  • Mobile Applications: Responsible for automating and optimizing the CI/CD pipeline for mobile applications, ensuring efficient deployment, monitoring, and scaling, while maintaining app performance and reliability in production environments.
  • Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize workloads for applications to improve performance, cost, and efficiency.
  • Developer Experience: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines  as well as underlying infrastructure.
  • Delivery: Create and enact deployment scripts using AWS Cloudformation, docker-compose, and other server/cloud based deployments to deliver applications to clients.
  • Data: Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines and underlying infrastructure.
  • Testing: Develop and maintain test suites for applications, including unit and integration tests.
  • Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve backend issues and work with the team to ensure smooth deployments and operations.
  • Cloud Architecture and Security
  • AWS System Design, develop, and maintain applications using AWS ECS, AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS, and other relevant services.
  • Architectural Design: Collaborate with the architecture team to create solutions that meet the company's technical and business requirements.
  • MLOps: Responsible for automating and optimizing the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of machine learning models, ensuring seamless integration, scalability, and system reliability in production environments.
  • Administration: Manage Cloud Servers, VPNs, and Routers as well as maintain and manage user accounts.
  • Create clear and comprehensive technical documentation to assist with system maintenance and knowledge sharing.
  • Compliance: Stay up to date with AWS best practices and industry standards, ensuring compliance regulations and security standards.
  • Backend Development
  • Design and develop Backend APIs and Services using Python, Go, or Node.
  • Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code and conduct code reviews to ensure quality and consistency across the codebase.


WHO YOU ARE

You are a self-driven and passionate individual who enjoys teamwork, innovation, and the fast paced environment of a startup.  To succeed within this role, you have have the following qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience working with AWS.
  • Strong proficiency developing infrastructure as code (IAC) using AWS CloudFormation.
  • Strong proficiency developing with Python or equivalent language.
  • Strong proficiency delivering and maintaining highly available systems.
  • Proficiency in System Administration, specifically Gitlab System Administration.
  • Proficiency in serverless application development using AWS SAM.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as Amazon DynamoDB and MongoDB.
  • Experience using Git to include working with others within the same codebase.
  • Understanding of AWS best practices, performance optimization, and cost control.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
