Senior Estimator

About the Role:

My client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Estimator to join a premier construction firm in the Chicago area. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in commercial construction and possess the ability to lead the estimating process for large-scale projects. This is a key role that requires strategic thinking, leadership, and a deep understanding of the construction industry.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for large commercial construction projects.
• Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to determine the scope of work and required resources.
• Oversee the collection and analysis of bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring competitive and fair pricing.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive project budgets and schedules.
• Participate in pre-construction meetings and assist in the preparation of project proposals.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior estimators, ensuring accuracy and consistency in all estimates.
• Conduct risk assessments and identify potential cost-saving opportunities through value engineering.
• Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and new technologies to ensure competitive and current estimating practices.
• Present estimates to senior management and clients, providing clear explanations of cost factors and assumptions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in estimating within the construction industry, with a focus on large-scale commercial projects.
• Proven ability to lead and manage the estimating process from start to finish.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with expertise in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Timberline, or similar).
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure.
• Deep knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• PMP or other relevant certification is a plus.
