The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing building related engineering projects where they will work with and communicate between our sales team and architects, engineers, contractors, and customers. Management of these projects includes, but is not limited to, the generation and interpretation of proposals, estimates, project designs, etc.


CORE & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Provides consultation or expert advice to customers, management, sales force, architects and customers concerning the products, product/roof system approvals, competitive information and roofing techniques
  • Manage outside engineering and architectural consultants to estimate, propose, produce, and deliver successful projects
  • Manage and direct vendors on engineering projects which include Shop Drawings, Structural Evaluations, and Engineering Calculations.
  • Write all aspects of technical proposals including cover letters, executive summaries, approach, resumes, project descriptions, and summary narratives to respond to Federal, State, and Local Government proposal requirements for engineering services.
  • Develop product and project designs according to state, local, national and international Building Codes and product approvals
  • Interpret new or existing construction drawings and guide drafting personnel through generation of new drawings
  • Assist sales force, architects and customers in trouble-shooting or problem-solving. This may include visiting job sites for a visual inspection to make a proper assessment for a solution
  • Proofread and edit technical documents and proposals
  • Manage engineering related consulting contracts
  • Assist in presenting power point presentations to potential customers or interfacing with customers and competitors at trade shows or conferences
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


A minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering consulting, specifically in roofing and/or building enclosure science is preferred. Possession of a post-secondary degree in engineering, building and construction, or architectural degree is preferred. Professional Engineer’s or Architect’s license is a plus. Ability to display a proficiency in AutoCAD and spreadsheet design. Working knowledge of construction product specifications and detailing. Requires knowledge and communication of general design principles, building codes and approvals, roofing/building - 2 - enclosure science, and product application techniques. Must successfully pass all required background screenings and obtain the requisite security clearance(s) to gain access to locations which require more stringent background scrutiny (example: military bases/installations). Demonstrated aptitude for problem-solving; ability to determine solutions for customers. Excellent communication and organizational skills. The ability to learn new concepts/procedures quickly. Must be results-orientated creative self-starter who is able to work both independently and within a team environment. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite applications. Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. use of protective gear). Driving is a requirement for this position. Must have the ability to travel both domestically and internationally, so the ability to travel by plane, operate a motor vehicle and maintain a driver’s license are required. Must have a vehicle in good working condition and ensure it meets all safety, insurance, and legal requirements. Overnight domestic and international travel required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to communicate orally in a clear, concise and effective manner with the customers, account representatives, company representatives, management, staff, and the public in face-to-face, one-on-one and group settings. Ability to use a telephone for communication. Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance at job and client locations, conferences, and all other designated locations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Use office equipment such as a personal computer, copier and facsimile machines. Ability to communicate in writing in a clear, concise and effective manner. Sit, walk and/or stand for extended time periods. Hearing and vision required to be within normal ranges. Ability to accurately distinguish color variation. Read at, above, and below shoulder height. Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch. Sufficient manual dexterity required to operate equipment. Must be able to carry, push, pull, reach and lift up to 50 lbs.; climb ladders/extension ladders, climb scaffold stair towers; climb and traverse different roof levels. The ability to be lifted to and work at varying heights. Sufficient manual dexterity to cut and manipulate products/ materials and use a flashlight. Ability to properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Ability to work in inclement weather with frequent exposure to the elements. Ability to tolerate household and other types of typical industrial / construction chemicals and solvents while properly using and wearing PPE as necessary. Ability to occasionally work evenings, weekends, and overnight travel required. Must have the ability to travel by plane, operate a motor vehicle, maintain a valid state motor vehicle driver license, and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle driving record. Overnight travel may be required.
