Laboratory Technician

• Calibrate and maintain ASTM C-114 certification on Oxford MDX 1080 XRF.
• Troubleshoot problems with X-Ray equipment.
• Perform analysis on cement, clinker and raw materials.
• Control chemical makeup of clinker used to produce Class H oil well cement.
• Run BTU's on coal and coke.
• Prepare and evaluate polished sections of clinker.
• Perform physical test on Type I cement during Class H oil well cement grinds.
• Keep accurate records of all analysis.
• Observe general laboratory functions and report procedure or process deviations to Quality Control Manager.
• Adhere to all Texas Lehigh, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations at all times
• Wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
• Meet or exceed company safety standards
• Responsible for verifying that the product conforms to quality control specifications
• Responsible for ASTM testing in the plants
• Performs work according to specification sheets and forwards to supervisors as needed
• Will perform clean-up and/or direct his/her crew in the clean-up work as necessary to keep tools, equipment and working areas clean, orderly and safe
• Perform other jobs responsibilities as assigned by management
• Responsible for understanding and communicating when there are gaps in quality
• Responsible in helping troubleshoot gaps with operations
• Responsible for the understanding of the impact on mix changes to the kiln process.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Associates degree in applied science or
• Experience of not less than 5 years in the cement manufacturing industry.
• Desire to learn and accept responsibilities.
• Ability to demonstrate good judgment.
• Ability to work as a team player during times of high demand work loads.
• Flexibility in work schedule as required by product production demands.
• Ability to work occasional rotating 12 hour shifts for 7 to 9 days straight.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Be able to work all hours and shifts including overtime, weekends and holidays
• Operate a computer proficiently including the use of company quality software and Microsoft Excel
• Ability to efficiently work with numbers and calculators
