Role Description
Summary
This position is responsible for the overall management of the Quality Assurance and Sanitation Departments and the development, implementation and administration of the Quality Program and Quality System Plan.
Essential Functions
· Accountable for the safety and quality of our food products
· Develop the Quality Assurance department goals and obligations, and ensure they are met. This includes completion of testing, investigations, and reporting in a timely and effective manner.
· Provide supervision, training, and development of QA Supervisors, Leads, Technicians, and Sanitation team. Lead the training of other departments regarding Quality programs and issues.
· Provide information and develop or share tools for personnel to maintain a high standard of attention to quality and for the company to continually improve the effectiveness of its Quality Systems.
· Maintain good communication with other internal functions, outside suppliers, customers, and senior management. Demonstrate the ability to influence and lead change across the organization.
· Manage customer complaints through investigation, correction, and communication with the appropriate sense of urgency
· Serve as the primary liaison and leader for corporate R&D in the factory.
· Ensure that job responsibilities of QA Supervisors, Leads, Technicians, and Sanitation team are understood and applied. Manage job performance based on these responsibilities.
· Schedule, organize, and hire QA Supervisors, Leads, Technicians, and Sanitation team as determined by production schedule, management directions, and department needs.
· Review and sign all QA documentation.
· Verify time sheets and approve overtime, sick days, vacation, absences, and tardiness for QA department.
· Represent QA in all regular interdepartmental and corporate meetings.
· Validate and sign off on changes made to product labels and specifications.
· Establish retain policy and process and ensure it is being executed correctly.
· Verify and validate Sensory Program and utilize results to drive decisions.
· Monitor the equipment calibration status and certification of all measuring and testing devices in the facility and see that they are renewed as required.
· Establish environmental testing program, execute, and evaluate the results.
· Maintain ingredient and packaging material documentation including current Specifications, MSDS, Nutritional Data, Letters of Guarantee, etc. as required.
· Monitor the traceability of ingredients, packaging materials, in process items, and finished products. Conduct regular mock recalls to test the effectiveness of the program.
· Facilitate successful audits by third parties and regulatory agencies.
· Provide and submit documents, forms, etc. to the auditing agency as requested.
· Investigate the company’s readiness for the audit and report or correct deficiencies that are discovered.
· Maintain records of Audit reports and comply with requests for corrective actions and follow up communications.
· Manage the department operations within the approved budget
Non-Essential Functions
· Approve vacation requests for those reporting to him or her
· Accountable for preparing and conducting performance evaluations of direct reports
· Assist the Human Resource Department with the coordination of staffing requirements
· Prepare, review and update job descriptions for existing positions, as well as newly created ones
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in biology, micro-biology, or other related field
· At least 5 years of management experience specifically in the area of quality
· Food manufacturing experience; baking experience a plus
· SQF Practitioner, HACCP, PCQI certifications
· Knowledge of FSMA requirements and how they apply to food manufacturing

· Proven track record of managing a quality assurance team
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
· Ability to create curriculum and facilitate training
· Detail oriented with ability to effectively manage and retain required documentation
· Comfortable in a fast paced manufacturing environment and hands on work
· Able to manage competing priorities and remain productive
· A team player mentality with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility
Salary Range:$85-$100K/yr
