Position Description

The Director of The Conscious Academy, rooted in the Vaishnava tradition and located in a vegetarian campus, is a pivotal role that oversees the comprehensive operations of our preschool. This includes adherence to state licensing requirements and fostering an environment that embodies our values of compassion, non-violence, and respect for all living beings. The Director is responsible for staff recruitment, training, curriculum development, enrollment, and ensuring the safety and security of children. Reporting directly to the owner, the Director also plays a crucial role in establishing positive relations with families and the broader community, aligning all activities and curricula with our Vaishnava ethos.


Key Responsibilities & Duties
  • Manage daily operations and prepare licensing renewal materials in accordance with health, safety, and licensing regulations.
  • Maintain administrative records and select curricula that reflect our commitment to Vaishnava principles and vegetarianism.
  • Evaluate directorial performance and foster personal professional growth.
  • Oversee enrichment activities, ensuring they promote the values of compassion and respect for all life.
  • Stay informed on early childhood education research, particularly developments that align with holistic and ethical teaching practices.
  • Supervise the management of classroom schedules, space, equipment, and teaching staff responsibilities.
  • Cultivate a supportive, inclusive, and ethically aligned work culture.


Fiscal Responsibilities
  • Operate the center within budget constraints, manage enrollment paperwork, and handle billing and communications with families.


Staff Management
  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes, emphasizing alignment with Vaishnava and vegetarian principles.
  • Conduct observations during probationary periods and maintain a roster of substitute staff.
  • Preside over staff meetings and lead annual training programs that promote professional growth within our ethical framework.
  • Support staff in planning and implementation of daily, weekly, and yearly plans that integrate with our unique curriculum.
  • Guide staff in utilizing indoor and outdoor spaces effectively, promoting an environment of care and respect.
  • Facilitate professional development and interpersonal relationships among staff, ensuring a harmonious work environment.


Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Comprehensive understanding of child care legislation and strong competencies in oral and written communication.
  • Proficient in computer and technology skills, with a deep understanding of child development.
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification, with a clear background check.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with openness and respect for all faiths but a commitment to fostering an understanding of Vaishnava traditions and vegetarian living among children and staff.
