Minneapolis Radiation Oncology (MRO) is the largest physician radiation oncology practice in the Upper Midwest. MRO has an opening for a full-time Board-Certified/Eligible Medical Physicist to work at our Twin Cities Metro Radiation Therapy Centers. MRO currently has a physics group comprised of 16 physicists and 15 dosimetrists who provide radiation oncology physics services to eight departments in the greater Minneapolis & St. Paul metro area, with additional centers in Northern MN and Western WI. All clinical sites are accredited by the ASTRO APEx accreditation program. MRO is also currently in the process of developing a CAMPEP accredited physics residency program with the intent to establish the residency program clinically by Fall 2026.
This is a new position we are adding to our physics team to help learn and support special procedures system-wide, ultimately growing into an independent Staff Physicist role. This is an exciting opportunity for a junior physicist to work in a state of the art environment across a multi-vendor environment, gaining experience in several platforms and technologies. Preference will be given to candidates with 2 years of experience post-residency, but we will also consider exceptional new graduates from CAMPEP accredited residency programs.
The successful candidate will be joining our cohesive physics group providing the full range of medical physics support for our Radiation Therapy Departments. This includes performing periodic calibration and QA for treatment machines, CT Simulators and image guidance systems. This position will also participate in and supervise patient specific QA, treatment planning/dosimetry for all SRS, SABR, & HDR treatment procedures, perform treatment chart checks and provide any additional support and consultation to radiation oncologists, dosimetrist and therapists.
MRO has aggressively invested in new equipment and technology. Over the last two years, we have added eight new Linear accelerators (5 True Beam and 3 Versa HD), seven GE DiscoveryRT CT simulators, and several software solutions with the aim of streamlining clinical services and delivering state of the art radiotherapy to patients.
MRO Radiation Oncology resources currently include nine Varian linear accelerators (7 True Beams, 1 Edge, 1 iX), five Elekta Versa/Infinity linear accelerators with Agility 160 leaf MLC, nine GE Discovery RT and one Philips widebore RT CT simulator with 4DCT capability, Vision RT/Identify systems for SGRT, one Gamma Med HDR, and one Flexitron HDR across nine free standing and one hospital based locations.
Eclipse TPS with ARIA EMR is used in all Varian Linac departments while MONACO TPS and MOSAIQ EMR are used in all our Elekta departments.
MRO has a wide array of physics QA equipment and software that includes portal dosimetry on both Varian & Elekta platforms, ArcCheck, SRS Map Check ,Delta4, IBA Bluephantom2, FilmQA Pro, Mobius 3D for secondary MU checks, MIM Protégé AI for AI based OAR contouring, Doselab software for TG-142 and other equipment and measurement devices that support SRS, SABR and HDR programs.
Our Varian departments have Radformation ClearCheck software for Eclipse TPS plan evaluation and use Radformation ChartCheck program for physics weekly patient chart checks that have been standardized across all our clinics. We are currently working towards moving all our QA to a cloud based solution using RadMachine QA software that will standardize and streamline our Daily, Monthly and Annual QA across our network
