This role requires a deep understanding of photonics principles, proficiency in design tools, and hands-on experience with testing equipment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the development, testing, and optimization of cutting-edge silicon photonic devices for various applications.


Responsibilities

  • Design and simulate silicon photonics components and systems using industry-standard design tools.
  • Develop test plans and procedures for characterizing silicon photonic devices, including modulators, detectors, waveguides, filters, and multiplexers.
  • Build and maintain test setups and measurement systems for evaluating the performance of silicon photonic devices.
  • Conduct comprehensive testing and validation of silicon photonics components, analyzing data and providing insights to guide design improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, fabrication, packaging, and applications engineering to ensure successful product development.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues during the design and testing phases, proposing and implementing solutions as needed.
  • Script layout for silicon photonic devices and generate PCells to facilitate rapid prototyping and design iterations.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in silicon photonics technology, contributing innovative ideas to enhance product performance and reliability.
  • Document design specifications, test procedures, and results to support product development and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing technical expertise and recommendations to drive continuous improvement in product quality and performance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of the silicon photonics team's technical capabilities.
  • Develop and execute test plans for silicon photonics devices, with a focus on passive and active testing.
  • Perform laser testing and characterize the performance of silicon photonics components.
  • Conduct high-speed testing using equipment such as PNA, AWG, DCA, and BERT.
  • Implement and optimize fiber alignment procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Build and configure test setups from the ground up, including the selection and integration of necessary equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, fabrication, and reliability teams, to drive continuous improvement in testing methodologies.
  • Develop and implement test automation scripts to streamline testing processes.
  • Analyze test data, troubleshoot issues, and provide detailed reports to support design and manufacturing improvements.


Qualifications

  • Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with a focus on photonics or optoelectronics.
  • Strong background in silicon photonics design, simulation, and testing, with 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as Lumerical Solutions, RSoft, Synopsys OptoDesigner, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with testing equipment such as optical spectrum analyzers, tunable laser, detectors, fiber alignment stage.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW for data analysis and automation.
  • Experience in scripted layout for silicon photonic devices and proficiency in PCell generation tools.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes and cleanroom protocols is desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality designs and test results on schedule and within budget.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies in the field of silicon photonics.
