Role: Scientist I/II
Typewriter Therapeutics repurposes a class of genetic elements from various natural genomes, and aims to develop an all-RNA-mediated gene writing platform via nonviral delivery to address unmet therapeutic needs. We are seeking a dedicated scientist to join our growing team and work on this new frontier technology in genome engineering. Reporting to the Sr. Principal Scientist, this scientist will join a young, collaborative and fun team. She/he is expected to be skilled in molecular and cell biology techniques, and displays an interest and aptitude in contributing to a rigorous scientific tone for our group. The successful applicant will have high growth potential in a fast-paced startup environment and make crucial contributions to new genome engineering tool development and next-generation human therapeutics.
Responsibilities
- Help design and engineer novel gene writing systems and collaborate with internal and external teams
- Design, clone, and produce plasmid DNA for RNA production via in vitro transcription (IVT)
- Design and execute qPCR, ddPCR, NGS, and cell-based assays
- Test gene writing systems for efficiency, robustness and help develop, optimize assays
- Make detailed observations, analyze, and interpret data
- Present routinely to diverse audiences including internal research team and other internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
- BS+7 or MS+4 years of experience or PhD in biological sciences or relevant field
- Molecular biology synthesis and analytical techniques
- Cell biology techniques including flow cytometry and/or sorting
- Proficiency in non-viral or viral gene delivery into human cells
- Experience with in vitro transcription, mammalian cell culture, transfection, and transduction
- Attention to detail, critical analysis of data, and good troubleshooting ability
- Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work as part of a team
- Flexible and willing to work across multiple projects
- Maintain superior lab record
- Quick learner and team player
- Demonstrate good organizational behavior
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior industry experience desired, including experience in gene editing or gene therapy technologies, preferred but not limited to CRISPR editing and PRIME editing
- Direct hands-on experience with quantitative analytical methods including qPCR, ddPCR, NGS and FACS
- RNA production and purification experience preferred
- Experience with primary cells including human primary T cells, hepatocytes desired
- Experience with lipid nanoparticle (LNP) or other nonviral delivery methods a plus
- Experience of driving lab projects independently a plus
