Construction Superintendent – Federal Projects (Joliet, IL)

Position Overview:

We’re seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee federal construction projects, starting with a major VA Hospital project in Joliet. You'll have the opportunity to lead on-site operations, coordinate trades, and maintain high safety, quality, and scheduling standards. This role is built for someone who thrives on accountability, taking ownership of outcomes, and has hands-on experience working with government projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead field supervision for all construction activities, covering civil, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and more.
• Ensure compliance with all contractual requirements, building codes, and safety standards.
• Coordinate and manage subcontractors, logistics, and design conflict resolution.
• Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring alignment with client expectations and deadlines.
• Track project progress with strict oversight of labor, material quantities, RFIs, and safety measures.
• Maintain close communication with the client’s on-site representative throughout project execution.
• Generate required reports (daily, quality, safety) and update tracking logs to assess schedule adherence.
• Proactively address potential schedule delays with a sharp focus on on-time project completion.

Qualifications:

• 5-10 years of experience in federal and public agency projects, with a proven track record of successful project completion.
• Experience with ground-up and healthcare facility projects (ICRA knowledge is a plus).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Federal project experience with agencies like the VA, Army Corps of Engineers, NAVFAC, or GSA is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with managing multiple $3MM-$10MM projects, coordinating trades, and conducting a 3-week look-ahead.
