Job Summary:
The role of the Marine Electrician is to perform a variety of skilled electrical preventive and breakdown maintenance tasks to all electrical equipment and perform other related work as required. The Marine Electrician is also responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems on ships and other marine vessels.
Employee Responsibilities (must be completed prior to being assigned any Company projects):
As the Marine Electrician, you must understand and implement the Company’s Strategic for 2023-2028. You must clearly understand how the set strategic goals and objectives can be achieved and promote the Company's Vision. It is vital to comprehend how your position fits into the Company's organization. Within 90 days of employment, you need to understand and promote the Company's ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and how it works. You should also assist in implementing other "Key Systems and Processes" in place within the Company to operate on a high level.
Marine Electrician Responsibilities:
- Carry out electrical wiring maintenance and repairs to electrical switch gear and electronically controlled equipment and machinery on company operated ships.
- Diagnose faults and maintain general operational readiness.
- Repair and maintain complex electrical processing equipment, including installation and removal.
- Read electrical circuit diagrams.
- Install conductors, splice cable, build terminations and the perform the necessary hook-up for all electrical connections including shore power supply and connection to vessels at berth.
- Complete all necessary documentation in a neat and timely manner.
- Install and repair electrical systems, including lighting, generators, and navigation equipment.
- Detect and troubleshoot electrical faults and issues.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to determine electrical system layout.
- Use hand and power tools to install and repair electrical systems.
- Collaborate with other members of the ship's crew to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations as well as company policies and procedures.
- Follow defined Safety, Health, and Environmental policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Qualifications:
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Read marine blueprints and work from standard and metric specifications.
- An in-depth knowledge in installation, testing, and repairing of marine cables and equipment along with a comprehensive knowledge of component/system start up, testing, troubleshooting, and repair.
- A working knowledge of installation and connection of lighting, electrical power, electronics, and fiber equipment is required.
- Valid state drivers' license and a passport.
- Access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time.
- The ability to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Available to travel to the vessel, as required.
- Must be able to complete basic offshore safety training, Helicopter Underwater Escape Training and pass the OGUK Offshore Medical Exam.
- Must have at least 5 years experience as a Marine Electrician.
- Experience with Dynamic Positioning Systems is preferrable.
- Master Electrician Certification
- Marine Engineer or equivalent licensing is a plus.
Technology Requirements:
- Must be proficient and effectively work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Must be able to work on Mac computers. Training is available upon request.
- Must understand document control and file sharing procedures, Dropbox, and other online tools.
Physical Requirements:
- The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal floatation devices (PFD), and/or other protective equipment.
- The individual frequently works near moving mechanical parts and must be able to adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
- The individual may be required to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
- The individual may be required to work in confined spaces, climb vertical ladders of a height of 6 ft. or greater, and/or elevated heights.
- The individual may be required to lift objects with a maximum single-person lift of 50 lbs. This could result in frequent lifting or carrying depending on project needs.
