Overview:

Our client, a leading company in the flexible packaging industry, is seeking a dedicated R&D Engineer to join their Research & Development team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to drive technical programs focused on the development of innovative flexible packaging products and technologies for some of the world’s most recognized brands. Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Research & Development, you will lead development and technical activities for assigned projects, delivering cutting-edge packaging solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to define technical targets for new product developments.
  • Lead technical initiatives to develop new flexible packaging structures, capabilities, or technological advancements.
  • Translate market requirements into precise specifications and design products that meet these standards.
  • Oversee and conduct pilot, production, and filling/packaging trials.
  • Engage with business leaders and customers to discuss development activities and requirements.
  • Coordinate tasks using available internal and external resources effectively.
  • Stay informed on the latest material and process developments to leverage and share knowledge within the business.
  • Build subject matter expertise in key focus areas and provide consultation within the organization.
  • Prepare and deliver written and verbal presentations, project plans, updates, and reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Travel to suppliers, customers, conferences, and other innovation partners.
  • Collaborate with marketing, supply management, engineering, sustainability, and other functions to identify needs and solutions.


Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science, preferably in Engineering, Science, Packaging, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5-10 years in a Product Development or Manufacturing role. Preferred experience with manufacturing processes such as blown film production, extrusion coating and laminating, printing (roto/flexo), pouching, and form/fill/seal conversion.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of material science (OPP, PET, PE, Nylon, paper, and foil).
  • Proficiency in new product development and packaging applications.
  • Strong project management skills, including multitasking, prioritization, time and budget management, planning, and execution.
  • Excellent technical writing and oral communication abilities.
  • Additional Experience: Experience in retail confection, bakery, snack, coffee, frozen food, beverage, thermally processed, or personal care markets is a plus.
