The General Manager will lead the team, optimize processes, and implement strategies to enhance manufacturing performance and achieve business objectives, onsite in Illinois.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight: Direct and manage daily operations across all manufacturing departments, ensuring production processes meet company objectives and efficiency standards.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement short-term and long-term operational strategies to meet production goals and address future needs.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and introduce new manufacturing technologies, processes, and systems to improve workflow, resource utilization, and material handling.
  • Budget Management: Oversee and manage operational budgets for manufacturing, ensuring cost-effective practices and financial oversight.
  • Resource Allocation: Efficiently allocate resources including personnel, materials, and equipment to maintain smooth and productive operations.
  • Performance Metrics: Provide detailed performance reports and metrics to senior management, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Technology and Trends: Stay abreast of advancements in manufacturing technologies and operational best practices to enhance performance.
  • Training and Development: Assess training needs, develop training programs, and ensure staff receive appropriate training to maintain high operational standards.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with manufacturing operations, ensuring regular maintenance and safety protocols.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and HACCP.
  • Staff Management: Collaborate with Human Resources to manage employee relations, conduct performance reviews, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Leadership and Communication: Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, conduct regular staff meetings, mentor team members, and ensure clear communication and effective policy implementation.
  • Contractor Management: Source and manage external contractors for facility maintenance and other operational needs.


Requirements and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operational Management, or a related field is required; Master’s degree is preferred. Alternatively, 10 years of relevant experience in a similar leadership role in food manufacturing may be considered.
  • Experience: At least ten (10) years of progressive experience in food manufacturing or a related industry.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices, Health and Safety regulations, Food Safety standards, HACCP, and PrimusGFS Program.
  • Operational Expertise: Strong background in strategic planning, resource management, and manufacturing operations.
  • Leadership Qualities: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams with excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on logical reasoning and evaluating alternative solutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent time management and organizational skills to ensure timely project completion and goal attainment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is a plus.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to shift assignments and changing business needs.


Working Conditions

  • Work Hours: Hours may vary based on business needs; day time hours.
  • Travel: Flexibility and willingness to travel are required, very little travel.
  • Environmental Conditions: Work environment includes high temperatures in the manufacturing area and occasional cooler temperatures in specific zones such as warehouse where the noise level may be high due to packaging equipment and forklift traffic.
