Human Resources Specialist

Job Summary:
The Human Resources (HR) Specialist plays a key role in supporting various HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance. The HR Specialist ensures that all HR policies and procedures are consistently followed and works closely with employees and management to foster a positive workplace environment. The ideal person for this position should encompass an inviting, positive attitude with willingness to assist the VP of HR with all tasks, as well as assisting employees.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Hiring
- Assist in developing job descriptions and job postings.
- Manage open positions through third-party websites, including screening resumes.
- Coordinate the recruitment process, including scheduling interviews and managing candidate communications.
- Conduct reference and background checks.
- Assist with new hire onboarding, including preparing offer letters, employment contracts, and conducting orientations.
Employee Relations
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries regarding HR policies, benefits, and procedures.
- Assist in addressing employee concerns and resolving workplace conflicts in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure company policies and practices are communicated and followed.
- Assist in conducting investigations for employee grievances and disciplinary actions.
Benefits Administration
- Assist with benefits enrollment and processing, including health, retirement, and other employee benefits programs.
- Answer employee questions regarding benefits, claims, and eligibility.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws related to benefits administration.
HR Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, and EEOC guidelines.
- Maintain and update employee files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Assist in preparing compliance reports and audits as required.
HR Programs and Initiatives
- Support the development and implementation of HR programs, including employee engagement, performance management, and training initiatives.
- Assist in organizing employee recognition events, wellness programs, and other HR activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement of HR processes and procedures.
Recordkeeping and Data Management
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, including attendance, benefits, and personal information.
- Utilize HR software and systems to track employee data, generate reports, and manage HR metrics.
- Ensure timely updates to employee records in HR systems, including changes in position, salary, and status.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. (HR certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR is a plus.)
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience in Human Resources or a similar role.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of HR policies, procedures, and employment laws. Familiarity with HRIS systems and recruiting software.
