Flexsys has an immediate opening for an analytical chemistry technician in the Akron corporate headquarters. The Flexsys Analytical team functions as both a research and process support laboratory for Flexsys products used in the rubber industry. The ideal candidate will have laboratory experience in multiple analytical techniques. This role will report to the Analytical group leader. 

  

Job Responsibilities


The analytical technician will work under the direction of a staff member in the analytical laboratory and have responsibilities including: 


  • Helping to provide necessary solutions to internal partners having analytical needs. 
  • Participating in R&D projects utilizing a variety of measurement techniques.
  • Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation.
  • Reviewing and writing test methods and technical reports.
  • Participating on technical teams focused on corporate growth programs as well as efforts to improve quality/reliability of laboratory services.
  • Preparing and supporting new or established technologies for commercial products and processes that may include:
  • Analytical measurements
  • Developing new laboratory test procedures
  • Material testing, including thermal stability, compositional analysis, and coordinating external testing.
  • Using and maintaining testing equipment, including associated software and hardware, to execute the test methods as prescribed.
  • Reporting data via LIMS, SharePoint, and other digital routes
  • Conducting technical experiments and projects
  • Developing hands-on and in-depth technical expertise
  • Documenting experimental work and writing technical and invention reports
  • Working safely and promoting a safe work environment
  • Employing the latest analytical technology and sound analytical principles to solve major technical problems.
  • Evaluating/developing new technologies and leading efforts to implement them.

Requirements

  

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4-year Degree in Scientific Field (equivalent work experience may be substituted for education)
  • Completion of the following mandatory chemistry/scientific courses: 
  • General Chemistry I & Lab?
  • General Chemistry II & Lab
  • Organic Chemistry I & Lab?
  • Organic Chemistry II & Lab?
  • Quantitative Analysis
  • Formal training in general laboratory procedures.
  • Problem solving, math and science skills and familiarity with statistical methodology. 
  • Initiative and the ability to work in a team setting. Clear and effective written and oral communication is essential.
  • General computer experience with relevant Microsoft software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Working knowledge of multiple analytical techniques is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment is necessary.
  • Knowledge in instrument troubleshooting and statistics desired. 
  • Should have clear and effective writing and oral communication skills.
