Job Title: EHS Technician

Core Description: The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Technician is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS programs and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards. The EHS Technician works under the direction of the Corporate EHS Manager to promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship throughout the organization.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety programs and policies.
  • Participates in regular audits and inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure compliance with EHS standards.
  • Helps with routine monitoring of emission control units, recording gauge readings and visual inspection results.
  • Aids with routine leak detection inspections.
  • Provides assistance with monitoring waste generation and recycling activities, prepares waste survey and minimization reports as needed.
  • Completes routine visual storm water inspections, collection and analysis of wastewater samples in accordance with discharge permit.
  • Support the Corporate EHS Manager in providing training and education to employees on EHS policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation, including permits, reports, and records, scoreboards, in collaboration with the EHS Manager.
  • Purchases, tests, and maintains all safety equipment including but not limited to, personal protective equipment (PPE), plant safety equipment and emergency response equipment.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding EHS-related concerns and inquiries.
  • Support the EHS Manager in liaising with regulatory agencies to ensure timely reporting and compliance with permit requirements.
  • Assist in the review of new processes, equipment, and chemicals for potential EHS impacts in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and drills to ensure preparedness for potential emergencies.
  • Assists with implementations as needed, for routine and non-routine activities under the facility’s RC 14001 Management System.
  • Serves in appropriate roles as necessary under the JH Emergency Response Program.
  • Performs internal Audits under the facility’s ISO programs and RC14001 Responsible Care Management Systems (RCMS).
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience: Experience in EHS management in a general manufacturing or chemical environment preferred.Certified Occupational Safety Specialist, OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental protection, occupational health, and safety.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend complex, technical material and have the ability to communicate that information in a training environment.
  • Basic understanding of ISO 14001 requirements and implementation.
  • Basic knowledge of operation of wastewater pretreatment system.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend effective control measures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and EHS management software.
  • Must pass drug screening as required.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.


Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

The job requires working in a manufacturing plant environment, which may involve exposure to chemicals, fumes, and loud noises.Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects, such as equipment components and chemical containers, weighing up to 50 pounds or more. The ability to perform physical tasks consistently throughout the shift is essential.Must have the agility and flexibility to move around the manufacturing plant, including climbing stairs, ladders (up to 140’), and platforms as needed. The job may require working in confined spaces and awkward positions to access equipment and perform tasks.Must have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate machinery and handle small tools and equipment with precision. This includes turning valves, adjusting controls, and performing maintenance tasks.Must have the physical endurance to stand for lengthy periods, sometimes in hot or uncomfortable conditions. The job may involve repetitive tasks and continuous movement throughout the shift.Must be in good physical health with no medical conditions that would prevent the safe performance of job duties. This includes the ability to withstand exposure to chemicals, fumes, and other potentially hazardous substances with proper personal protective equipment, including but not limited to masks or respirators.Must have adequate vision and hearing to detect equipment malfunctions, read gauges and displays, and communicate effectively with team members. Protective eyewear and hearing protection is required in certain areas of the plant.Must maintain a constant awareness of safety hazards and follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and using safety harnesses and fall protection when working at heights.Must be able to adapt to changing environmental conditions, including temperature fluctuations, humidity, and noise levels, while maintaining focus and attention to detail.This job advertisement should not be interpreted as all-inclusive.
