Project Control Coordinator

Houston, United States Insight Global Full time

Day to day:

A utility client in the South Houston area has a need for a Project Coordinator/Scheduler (PROJECT READINESS) to join their Transmission Operations Team. This individual would report into an operations Supervisor who reports into the Manager of Construction Field Operations. You would be helping the entire team with Project readiness for the crews. You would be assigned projects about a year in advance, and when you are, that means that you have insight to tons of information about project status, that are produced from all different departments (Right Away, Legal, Procurement, etc.). All this information needs to be accurate and confirmed for the team to be able to start a project. You will be sorting through all that information and produce a dashboard that shows project readiness. This individual will be working on long range projects (could be 1 -2 years out from the start of the project). There is a lot of planning in early stages, checking permitting, anything that can delay the project, monitoring all that, a year or so out before inception. 90 – 120 days out before they start construction, they transfer the work to the short-range person and instruct them on what they were monitoring and any future potential issues, to avoid them. Then it goes to construction supervisor and gets passed on and on. This position is heavier than the short-range individual in terms of planning. They will be using P6 heavily, this is where they will get all their data, compile it, etc. They are not doing the actual scheduling but monitoring that everything is aligning. For example, they may have to file permits in advance that take months to go through (railroads take time, must be organized and file in advance). There is absolutely a project management aspect to this role.

Job Summary: Provides all aspects of project construction readiness, work planning, communications and management reporting for the timely completion of transmission line construction projects.

  • Perform construction readiness reviews for the timely transition from a conceptual development plan to construction.
  • Develop project construction readiness implementation plans including: readiness analysis; readiness activities; and readiness reporting.
  • Perform activity mapping and task identification reviews with stakeholders, including the use of transmission system development plans, GIS data systems, aerial photography, and facility maps.
  • Interface with various project stakeholders to identify desired outcomes, project deliverables, and risk impacts.
  • Build and maintain project schedules using Microsoft Project Professional software.
  • Perform field inspections as necessary to ensure on-time performance of task schedules.
  • Manage project forecasting and monitor pre-construction activities, prepare readiness reports, and establish metrics to ensure timely work progress.
  • Analyze monthly schedule progress deviations and determine critical path exceptions.
