Position Summary:

The School Psychologist in Killeen, Texas, is responsible for supporting the emotional, social, and academic development of students. This role involves conducting psychological assessments, providing counseling and intervention services, collaborating with educators and parents, and developing programs to create a positive school environment. The School Psychologist plays a vital role in promoting mental health and ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed.


Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations to assess students' cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
  • Utilize standardized tests, observations, and interviews to gather data on student performance and well-being.
  • Interpret assessment results and prepare detailed reports with findings and recommendations.

Intervention and Counseling:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students to address emotional, social, and behavioral issues.
  • Develop and implement intervention strategies to support students with special needs or those experiencing academic difficulties.
  • Collaborate with teachers to create and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and individualized education programs (IEPs).

Consultation and Collaboration:

  • Work closely with teachers, parents, administrators, and other school staff to support student development and address concerns.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, providing input on psychological and educational goals.
  • Provide training and resources to staff and parents on topics related to child development, mental health, and effective intervention strategies.

Crisis Intervention and Prevention:

  • Respond to school crises, providing immediate support and intervention for students and staff.
  • Develop and implement programs to prevent bullying, promote positive behavior, and support mental health.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide policies and practices to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

Professional Development:

  • Stay current with best practices and developments in school psychology through ongoing professional development.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions as required by the school district.
  • Engage in continuous learning to enhance skills and knowledge in psychological assessment, counseling, and educational support.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Specialist-level degree (e.g., Ed.S.) or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in School Psychology or a related field from an accredited institution.

Certification:

  • Must possess or be eligible for Texas state licensure or certification as a School Psychologist.
  • Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential is preferred.
