Strategic Technology Director/Staff Engineer

The influential Firmwide Strategy Group reports to the firm’s Chief Strategy Officer and works with the Executive Office and senior divisional and business unit management to set and execute key strategic priorities for the firm. The group develops, evaluates, and executes plans for new businesses and growth initiatives and leads strategic transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, and dispositions, on behalf of the firm.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

The newly created role of Technology Strategy Expert will be a highly visible member of a small, dynamic team. The individual will work closely with the firm’s Technology Division leadership and play a key part in setting the firm’s technology strategy across its businesses. The individual will also help to lead various execution projects, including the implementation of technology-related strategic initiatives and transactions. Assignments will provide exposure to the breadth of activities at a major international financial firm with multiple business lines, including its opportunities and challenges, and frequent interaction with senior divisional and firm leadership. The role provides an opportunity to gain the operational perspective of a principal while also serving as a trusted strategic and financial advisor to key internal clients.


The Firmwide Strategy group has proven to be a gateway to a number of attractive career paths. Past team members have been promoted to senior leadership positions within the group as well as transitioned to investing and management positions inside our firm and elsewhere, corporate strategy roles within various industries, and to traditional investment banking.


Representative Projects / Transactions:

  • Annual strategy review presentation to Board of Directors
  • Helped develop Firm strategy and various business plans
  • Sales of different business lines
  • Acquisitions of major corporations


Desired Experience / Skills:

  • Passion for using technology to transform businesses
  • Strong knowledge of or interest in learning about the financial services industry
  • Ability to review and synthesize information and form independent judgments
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and technical abilities.
  • While the role does not require coding, we expect that the suitable candidate has a computer science degree and could dive into a codebase when needed.
  • We expect that this candidate knows the pros and cons and nuisances of various technologies and programming languages.
  • Drive and enthusiasm, including for training and mentoring junior team members
  • This role would have 15-25 reports
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with confidence and ability to interact effectively with senior leaders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet competing deadlines
