Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Relay Technician with a background in power generation, specifically in medium and low voltage systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining protective relays and associated equipment to ensure the safe and reliable operation of power generation facilities. This position will be contract-to-hire for 6 months to start.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation, testing, and commissioning of protective relays, control systems, and associated equipment for medium and low voltage power generation systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults and relay malfunctions, utilizing test equipment and diagnostic tools as needed.
  • Develop and implement relay testing procedures in accordance with industry standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to design and implement relay protection schemes for new and existing power generation facilities.
  • Provide technical support and training to junior technicians and field personnel as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, test results, and work performed in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.


Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent technical training in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in testing, calibrating, and configuring protective relays, including electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based relays.
  • Strong knowledge of medium and low voltage electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, and generators.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations governing relay protection, such as ANSI, IEEE, and NERC requirements.
  • Experience working with relay testing software and diagnostic tools, such as Omicron, Doble, or Megger.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze complex electrical systems to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and interface with customers and vendors.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours as needed.
