Job Requirements

  • Welding inspector ensures that the work produced by welders meets specific customer specifications for quality and safety The inspector performs tests on welds to ensure that the welds satisfy engineering specifications This position also participates with training newly hired welders
  • Performs visual inspections on welded products and structures in progress and on completed jobs
  • Searches for defects in the weld such as cracks and pits
  • Uses magnification to find defects that potentially weaken the strength of the joint
  • Checks weld machine setup and the welding techniques of welders on work in-process to ensure the quality of the work
  • Records the results of tests and welding inspections
  • Facilitates a weld sample test
  • Administers a hands-on welding sample test using company equipment
  • Works with Welding Department Team Leaders to provide ongoing training for existing welder workforce


Job Qualifications

  • A Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification is required
  • A minimum of three years’ experience is required
  • ASNT non-destructive examination (NDE) Level 2 certification is desirable
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • To perform the job successfully, an individual will need to perform the following competencies
  • The quantity of work produced and the promptness with which it is completed
  • The ability displayed and accuracy of work produced, meeting company standards, and requiring little to no rework
  • Knowledge of job, techniques, skills, equipment, procedures, materials, etc
  • Punctuality and attendance
  • Willingness and cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors; ability to accept constructive criticism
  • The degree to which an employee searches out new tasks and expands their ability to perform assigned tasks without direct supervision
  • Follow quality environmental policies and have knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001
  • Follow safety procedures, security protocol, and wear proper PPE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
