Position Overview
The Automotive Finishing team, located in Guthrie, KY, is seeking a Reliability Engineer. This role is responsible for improving manufacturing performance and equipment reliability by reducing machine downtime and unscheduled maintenance. A successful candidate will have the initiative to own and drive the reliability of the HTL/PTL finishing lines, be self-directed and have the ability to connect with team members at all levels.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate and own the Guthrie Condition Monitoring Program, as it pertains to Predictive and Preventive Maintenance, Infrared Thermography, Tribology, Ultrasonic, Vibration Analysis, Motor Circuit Analysis, Plant Wide Lubrication Program, etc.
- Provide technical expertise to implement cost effective preventive and predictive asset strategies to achieve best in class availability and reliability of the plant process equipment.
- Provide support for equipment related loss investigations to determine casual factors and provide technical recommendations and mitigation plans to prevent reoccurrence.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, procurement and other identified partners to drive improved asset availability and support fit for purpose training on reliability work processes and practices. Provide New hire Training for Maintenance Technician’s in Reliability Technologies, Lubrication and Laser Alignment
- Support equipment related data capture for analysis and trending to establish equipment health, evaluation of risk, identifying bad actors and opportunities for improvement.
- Publish Reliability Key Performance Indicators to measure and improve Reliability performance of the equipment assets and reliability related work processes.
- Ensure the facility’s assets are operating reliably, efficiently, and aligned with all safety guidelines and government regulations. Assist EHS Environmental with collection, Tagging and removal of Waste Oils and Lubricants.
- Assist in supporting Maintenance in the development of forward-looking multi-year equipment replacement and overhaul plans.
- Connect with Vendors to ensure Rebuilds, Repairs and Assembly of new Equipment are completed to specification and on time.
- Seek opportunities to use the best processes, technology, automation and Artificial Intelligence to promote cost effective asset care and performance.
- Work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekend duty as necessary to manage facility performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science Degree or combination of post-secondary education and related experience preferred
- Five (5) or more years of experience in Maintenance, Engineering, or Operations, Aluminum industry preferred.
- Experience in developing and implementing improvement processes and projects.
- Knowledge of reliability centered maintenance and ability to facilitate investigations and develop mitigation plans to address findings.
- Experience with maintenance standard processes such as Precision Maintenance techniques (e.g. dynamic balancing, equipment alignment, equipment repair standards, etc.) and predictive maintenance technologies (i.e. Vibration, Tribology, Thermography, Ultrasound, Motor Circuit Analysis)
- Knowledge and/or experience with Process Control
- Experience with proactive reliability tools and Root-Cause-Analysis methodology.
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Experience fixing equipment issues and analyzing production loss and reliability data.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Project

Novelis in Guthrie Kentucky is approximately 15 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and 30 minutes from Hopkinsville Kentucky. As Novelis’ newest facility Guthrie houses a heat treatment and pretreatment line as well as a recycle center that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 300 residents.
