The HSE professional is responsible for developing and implementing organizational safety programs. They review and update institutional HSE policies, conduct risk assessments, and enforce preventative measures. Their ultimate goal is to minimize occupational health and safety risks, and ensure compliance with environmental and workplace safety regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Culture: Foster a workplace safety culture where safety is a primary concern to all employees through leadership, advocacy, and collaboration.
  • Communication: Serve as the liaison between regulatory agencies, contractors, and employees on safety-related matters. Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and international standards.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Training and Awareness: Organize HSE training for employees to promote health and safety awareness across the organization. Design and conduct training programs to ensure that employees are aware of safety procedures, practices, and regulations.
  • Accident Investigation and Reporting: Investigate accidents, incidents and/or near-miss incidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent them in the future. Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
  • Compliance and Auditing: Ensure the company complies with all environmental, health, and safety legislation. Conduct internal and external audits to ensure adherence to legal and corporate standards.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation plans, and lead emergency response teams during incidents.
  • Environmental Management: Monitor environmental performance and implement initiatives to reduce the impact of the organization's operations on the environment.
  • Health Programs: Implement and manage health programs such as workplace ergonomics, air quality assessments, and noise level monitoring to ensure employee well-being.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with external bodies, such as regulatory agencies and environmental organizations, and handle any HSE inquiries or inspections.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, or related field, preferred.
  • Proven experience in an HSE role.
  • OSHA Training, OSHA's Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response standard (HAZWOPER) training, DOT Hazcom training, preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of HSE regulations and guidelines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions and presentations.
  • Proficient in HSE management systems and auditing.
