What We Are Looking For.


Butcher Power Products (BPP) is a rapidly expanding manufacturing company seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer or Draftsman with experience in designing UL891 Low Voltage Switchgear for a full-time, preferably on-site position. We are a team of dedicated individuals who deeply care about our work, our customers, and each other. If you are looking for a dynamic workplace where you can grow and contribute meaningfully, we want to hear from you We are seeking an experienced individual to bring new perspectives and ideas for optimizing our electrical distribution designs. In this role, you will work closely with our Director of Operations, Production Manager, and Engineering Team to develop Low Voltage Distribution Solutions to customer specifications, and create drawings, elevations, and 3D models for both quotation and build purposes.


Job Responsibilities


  • Engineer and design UL891 Low Voltage Switchboards to customer specifications, develop detailed electrical designs for switchgear components, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications. 
  • Create drawings, elevations, and 3D model and optimize electrical schematics, considering power distribution, protection, and control requirements. 
  • Make design decisions regarding enclosures, buss, circuit breakers, and component placement. 
  • Specify and select electrical components such as circuit breakers, relays, and transformers based on performance criteria and project requirements. 


  • Maintain knowledge of the UL891 standards, circuit breakers, power generation/distribution systems, switchgear, low voltage equipment/insulation systems, generator paralleling, automatic source transfer, motor control, and PLC/HMI/SCADA programming.
  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, ANSI, UL, and other relevant standards.
  • Create and maintain accurate records of design changes and updates, quality control for drawings, one-lines, component layouts, wiring diagrams, BOMs, project submittals, construction drawings, and As-Builts.
  • Provide engineering and technical support to manufacturing, testing, and product support.
  • Stay informed about industry standards, regulations, and certifications related to switchgear electrical design


  • Support and Collaboration:


  • Provide support to optimize manufacturing and industrial engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to enhance design and production processes.


  • Quality and Compliance:


  • Conduct Engineering Review meetings to ensure client specifications are met.
  • Create and manage engineering change requests to update and improve procedures.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze and resolve design engineering issues to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
  • Monitor and report on design manufacturability metrics to identify improvement areas.


Qualifications & Requirements


  • Technical Knowledge and Experience:


  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical engineering in the electrical distribution industry, specifically UL891 Low Voltage Switchboards 
  • Experience in the electrical distribution industry, specifically with designing UL891 Low Voltage switchgear/switchboards/panelboards/industrial control. 
  • Proficient understanding of manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in implementing lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to interpret and create technical drawings and specifications.


  • Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of quality control principles and adherence to quality standards.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Effective teamwork and collaboration with cross-functional teams, including operations, production, and engineering.

  • Autodesk Inventor preferred or Solidworks.
