Are you ready to lead and innovate in the world of research administration? The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) invites you to apply for the role of Research Administrative Services Lead, where you'll oversee the vital administration of SAO-sponsored research activities.


Your Role:

- Manage and direct all aspects of research administration, including award submissions, compliance, cost analysis, subawards, and external relations.

- Oversee the execution and administration of Chandra XRay Center (CXC) and Einstein postdoctoral fellowship subgrants for NASA.

- Maintain unlimited signatory authority for incoming awards and execute contracting at SAO.

- Lead a team of professionals responsible for over $90M in annual research expenditures.

- Proactively seek funding opportunities and oversee proposal development.

- Ensure compliance with financial and contractual regulations.

- Manage export compliance, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

- Offer training and support to researchers in proposal development.


What You Bring:

- Completion of mandatory training for grade 13 or higher-level contracting positions and 4 years of experience in contracting or related roles.

- A bachelor's degree in fields like accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, etc., supplemented by relevant coursework.

- Extensive knowledge of contracting and subcontracting laws, grant and contract administration, and proposal and budget preparation.

- Strong understanding of procurement regulations, negotiation techniques, and financial management methods.

- Exceptional communication, analytical, and supervisory skills.
