Rare Bird Beauties was founded in 2015 and has grown into one of Chicago’s top luxury wedding and special event hair and makeup companies. With hundreds of wedding clients each year, the company is represented by over 40 of Chicago’s most talented hair and makeup artists.


In 2022, Rare Bird Beauties began expanding their brand beyond services by developing Rare Bird Beauties Custom Matched Extensions. The new line of hair extensions became so popular with bridal clients that the decision was made to expand the RBB hair and makeup studio to include a retail space and bring Custom Matched Extensions to everyone. In addition to the extension line, our store will feature one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry along with hair and makeup products. The RBB studio and retail space also feature an in-house esthetician, helping to make it a comprehensive beauty destination.


We believe that styling hair and makeup is a true art form. We dedicate ourselves to the detailed work of bringing out the natural beauty of each of our clients. When someone looks in the mirror after working with our team, they know why it is hard to miss a rare bird beauty.


ABOUT THE RETAIL BEAUTY CONSULTANT POSITION


Rare Bird Beauties offers luxury beauty services and products for “The Day” and for “Everyday” beauty. Whether you need custom matched extensions for your wedding day or date night, your hair and makeup done by our amazing artists to walk down the aisle or for girls night out, Rare Bird Beauties is here to bring out your inner beauty. 


We are currently looking for members to add to our team in the area of retail store management and hair extensions matching. At our beautiful storefront located in Chicago, we sell custom matched hair extensions, jewelry, and hair care products. 


One of the most important aspects of this position is the ability to custom match hair extensions for each client. Imagine this:


You’re working in our sunlit store and Maggie walks in. She has an important conference coming up in New York City and she wants to enhance her look with our Custom Matched Extensions. 


You ask Maggie to take a seat in our Matching Chair. You grab your color swatch and determine Maggie needs a balayage extension, 30% Color 20 Blonde, 50% Color 6 Brown, and 20% 8 Brown. Next you take out your hair measuring tape to measure the length of her hair. Maggie will need a 20inch extension. Finally, you feel the thickness of Maggie’s hair and decide she has medium weight and will need a 200 gram full set of extensions. 


You have now custom matched Maggie for her perfect extensions, so you begin walking to the checkout counter. Before you get to the counter, you notice Maggie looking at our gemstone necklaces. 


You tell Maggie, “These are handmade by Kristen Beyers, an amazing jewelry artist. She actually travels the country and mines these gems herself. They come straight out of the ground and into Kristin’s workshop then come to our store. We just adore her artistry.”


Maggie falls in love with an opal stone necklace and buys it along with her extensions. 


Beyond matching clients and selling the products in our store, this role has the important job of greeting and checking in clients for their appointments, opening and closing the store, keeping inventory, stocking items, keeping our space beautiful and clean, and creating social media posts a few times a week. 


We are looking to hire employees who not only love beauty, but who truly love people. Our ideal employees have the ability to help others see their true inner beauty and the ability to bring that out. 


Our ideal candidate will have former experience in hair, possibly you are a hair stylist yourself or have worked in a salon. They will also have a history in retail, and a bonus if a candidate has professional experience in social media marketing

JOB DUTIES


  • Opening and Closing the store
  • Greeting clients and checking them in for their appointments
  • Custom matching clients with RBB Extensions
  • Checking out retail customers
  • tracking and updating inventory
  • stocking items
  • Pricing items
  • managing client appointments, scheduling, cancellations, and so on
  • Receiving packages
  • Researching new jewelry makers to bring into the store
  • Retail related social media posts
  • Complete knowledge on all products, including knowing which artist makes each piece of jewelry, what materials and how each piece is made, all aspects of our extensions, and so on
  • keep our space beautiful, light cleaning, watering plants


OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING:


  • 5-10 years retail experience (and/or sales experience)
  • 5-10 years customer service experience
  • 3-5 years hair experience (stylist, working in a salon, so on)
  • 3-5 years of beauty industry experience
  • Ability to custom match a client with perfect extensions
  • Awareness of beauty trends within the areas of makeup, hair, and jewelry 
  • An eye for retail design and layouts
  • Social Media Marketing experience not required but good to have
  • Experience with the following applications: Gmail, Google Calendar, Spreadsheets, Retail software of any kind, Inventory software of any kind, Ability to easily learn new software


JOB SCHEDULE

  • Our retail store will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and possibly Thursdays.
  • Thursdays and Fridays will be open from 1PM to 7PM
  • Saturdays and Sundays from 10AM to 4PM
  • Hours and days subject to change based on client demand
