Job Summary:

Assists in examinations and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Performs phlebotomy functions and routine laboratory tests. Performs clerical/administrative duties related to office operation as requested.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Interviews patients, takes vital signs, i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight/height and records information on patient’s chart.
  • Administers electrocardiograph (EKG) and other routine diagnostic tests, or coordinates patients for tests with another department.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients, ensuring all supplies and equipment are available and in working order. Ensures medical equipment and patient care areas are cleaned daily. Assists physician with patient examinations.
  • Performs and documents routine laboratory tests.
  • Performs and documents exercise stress tests under the supervision of physician or mid-level.
  • Maintains departmental files and performs clerical duties as assigned.
  • Maintains appropriate knowledge of Meaningful Use and Quality of Care for patients.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of an approved Certified Medical Assistant program or Treadmill/Stress Testing training preferred.


Experience: Previous experience in a physician’s office or other ambulatory setting

preferred.


Licensure/Certification: CPR Certification.

Skills: Above average communication skills and ability to relate effectively to the public and health care professionals.

Lifting, pushing or pulling more than 50 pounds or equivalent required.

Moderate mental concentration and stress.

Subject to exposure to infectious conditions and minor hazards such as muscle sprains, cuts, and bruises.
