Summary:
The Controls Project Electrical Engineer manages and implements all aspects of electrical engineering for our Industrial automated equipment. This includes CAD design, electrical specifications, industrial programming, and startup/checkout.
The controls engineer works under general supervision on projects involving diverse scope while considering various factors related to the assigned projects.
You may direct the work of inside resources, outside contractors and company service personnel functions. You will ensure project completion of a project on-time and on budget.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Specifies needs for various components with vendors and customers, evaluates and orders necessary items (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, wiring, sensors, circuit breakers, etc.)
- Conducts engineering design evaluations for compliance with engineering principles, standards and customer requirements.
- Reviews project scope to ensure electrical design complies with customer expectations and equipment requirements.
- Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolution of routine design and test issues.
- Evaluates design changes, specifications and remains familiar of the latest electrical controls technology in the industry.
- Participates in design review meetings covering electrical drawings, electrical specifications, machine specifications, utility requirements, serviceability, and other attributes.
- Assists with the development of operations and service manuals for assigned projects.
- Develops and may assist with technical training with customers for assigned projects.
- Travel domestic and internationally as required to perform start-up of machinery.
- Travel estimated at 30%.
- Makes and implements design modifications to facilitate electrical panels builds and machine programming.
- Establish our engineering/design standards and specifications utilizing engineering principles and calculations. Establishes quality system procedures and other standards/procedures as appropriate to the design function. Ensures consistent application of these standards.
- Works closely and communicates with other Project Engineers, Sales, Applications, Manufacturing, and Service to resolve design issues, change orders and approvals.
- Communicates and confirms project scope and specifications with the customer.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by Engineering Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, industrial technology or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity in latest computerized electrical design applications and schematic generation ( Promise E and E-Plan).
- Five years of experience in PLC and HMI programming for custom equipment preferred (Rockwell and Siemens).
- Strong analytical and problem solving, verbal and written communication skills to work effectively within a team environment.
- Ability to effectively check all drawings and programs for errors or deviations from standard practice prior to submittal to customers or manufacturing.
- Knowledge of VFDs, communication networks, and industrial control components (Rockwell, Siemens, Ethernet/IP).
- Strong customer relation skills.
