A member-driven risk pool is seeking an experienced Claims Supervisor to join their team in Lisle, IL. Reporting to the Property/Casualty Program Director, this position is responsible for supervising the property and casualty claims administration functions for multiple lines of coverage including general liability, auto liability, property damage, workers’ compensation, public officials errors and omissions, employment practices liability, and pollution.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish departmental policies and procedures, evaluate claim management performance and audit to ensure quality control. Develop and communicate expectations, goals, strategies and metrics, manage staff performance and provide development opportunities.
  • Assign claims to staff based on focus area and current workload, establish and assign appropriate reserves, and review and authorize settlement and reserve modification requests.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of coverage documents, analyze and apply coverage concepts to claims, and recommend coverage document revisions. Adjust property, liability, workers compensation, employment practices liability, pollution, and other claims in accordance with coverage and the claim handling policies. Review and approve workers’ compensation medical bill payments.
  • Directly participate in the investigation of serious losses and coordinate with legal staff to assign litigated cases and support the development of defense strategies. Ensure litigation management plan compliance.
  • Administer quarterly Medicare reporting, including collecting and reporting data, and collaborating with Medicare representatives. Prepare and distribute proofs of loss, as well as quarterly summary reports, to excess carriers and reinsurers. Generate annual tax reporting documents.
  • Evaluate, select, and contract vendors and service providers as needed.
  • Develop the Claims Department annual budget, monitor expenses and take corrective action to satisfy budgetary requirements, and provide budget performance analyses to the Property/Casualty Program Director.


REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited 4-year university.
  • 5+ years of relevant professional, related work experience demonstrating the expertise needed to successfully manage a multi-line in-house property and casualty claims department.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.

Preferred

  • Professional property and casualty claims management experience in an intergovernmental park and recreation risk management pool.


Certifications, Licenses and Registrations

Preferred

  • Associate in Claims (AIC).
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required

  • Knowledge of property and casualty claims administration principles and techniques involving general liability, auto liability, property damage, workers’ compensation, public officials errors and omissions, employment practices liability, accident investigation, and business management principles.
  • Knowledge of property and casualty insurance risk management principles and practices and claims administration in order to create, implement, manage and evaluate a comprehensive multiline claims administration department.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills that allow effective and professional communication with a wide variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Analytical skills necessary to conduct complex and detailed analysis of technical data, loss experience reports, insurance policies and reinsurance agreements, state and federal statutory provisions, unique loss causation reports, research and statistical data.
  • Analytical skills necessary to interpret complex insurance contracts and coverage documents, and the ability to apply basic legal principles of civil law.
  • Minimum intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Ability to travel locally and state-wide to attend meetings, training, and continuing education programs.
