Wind Turbine Technician

Position Title: Wind Technician

Location: Silverton, TX

Scope of Job:

Under the direction of the site manager, the Wind Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance on wind turbines and photovoltaic power energy storage systems. With supervision from experienced technicians, this role also involves troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades. Safety is a core priority, and the technician is expected to work cautiously under all conditions, seeking guidance as necessary.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct preventative maintenance on wind turbines, utility-scale photovoltaic power plants, and storage systems.
• Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment upgrades under supervision.
• Complete Job Safety Assessments (JSAs) and apply Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) plans and procedures.
• Identify and report safety hazards and recommend improvements.
• Participate in on-call rotations and work outside regular business hours as needed.
• Attend required safety and technical training sessions.
• Document completed jobs, manage supply orders, and complete daily work orders.
• Accurately track time and complete necessary project paperwork.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the site manager.

Supervision:

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and training.
• Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet motor vehicle operation standards.
• Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems in wind turbines and photovoltaic/storage systems.
• Familiarity with safety standards like CSA Z462/NFPA 70E and appropriate PPE.
• Ability to read schematics and use a multimeter effectively.
• Proficient in computer use and capable of following written and verbal instructions.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Successful completion of applicable safety and technical training programs.
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to meet fall protection requirements (maximum weight of 285 lbs.).
• Manual dexterity for handling tools and small components.
• Ability to stand, crouch, and work for extended periods.
• Capability to lift/move 35-50 lbs. regularly.
• Comfortable working at heights exceeding 300 feet and in confined spaces.
• Willingness to work in diverse weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and wind.

Working Conditions:

• Majority of time spent working on renewable energy assets in the field.
• Limited office work for administrative tasks.
• Exposure to high voltage, mechanical vibrations, confined spaces, and moderate noise levels.

Schedule:

• Standard eight-hour shifts, with potential overtime and night shifts as required.
