Medical Scheduling Secretary

Responsibilities
- Make outbound calls to ensure accurate appointment scheduling into database for medical providers
- Respond to patients' questions and need by editing, canceling and rescheduling appointments according to office protocols
- Work with and communicate to practice offices regarding add on patients
- Handle, maintain, and monitor pre-appointment work lists as assigned
- Collect and process payments from patients
- Confirm eligibility, coverage verification, and benefits with insurance companies. Determine financial responsibility for services
- Assist in working with insurance companies to process claims
- Ensure all pre-authorization issues are communicated in a timely manner
- Liaise with physician's staff to obtain additional insurance and/or clinical information
- Update the patient accounts on multiple client systems
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested
- Proven experience as a medical secretary/appointment scheduler or similar administrative position
- Knowledge of medical terminology, regulations, and medical office procedures; knowledge of medical coding is strongly desired
- Experience processing insurance claims
- Familiarity with basic bookkeeping
- Knowledge of MS Office, databases and EHR systems
- Outstanding communication skills
- Patience and discretion
- Organizational and multitasking skills
- High school diploma; additional training in Medical Administration is a plus
