Adjunct Professor of History

Adjunct Faculty members serve the University on a contract basis as teachers, mentors, colleagues, and scholars. They excel in classroom instruction and satisfy the responsibilities related to their teaching duties. They report to their department chair and/or the Director of Academic Programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic Instruction and Support
Adjunct faculty members:
- Develop instructional materials, plan instruction and craft assignments to encourage and enhance student learning, develop communication skills and higher order thinking.
- Use a variety of methods to assess student mastery of the content and evaluate learning by applying course competencies.
- Provide students constructive, encouraging, and corrective feedback.
- Modify instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that result in clear communication of subject matter to the students.
- Meet classes when scheduled.
- Be accessible to students through e-mail, phone, and/or scheduled office hours. When necessary, arrange additional time for appointments.
- Prepare and distribute course syllabi according to established procedures and follow the published final exam schedule.
- Maintain correct and up-to-date student records including class attendance and grades.
- Respect the confidentiality of student information by not discussing or releasing student information.
- Evaluate students on their academic performance and respond promptly to student questions about their performance.
Member of the University Community
In addition to teaching, adjunct faculty members are active members of the community, performing their professional responsibilities following the mission and goals of the University. Adjunct faculty:
- Fulfill all requirements in the ACU Faculty and Staff and Faculty Supplemental handbooks.
- Participate in required meetings and exercise stewardship in the use of college facilities and materials.
- Respect and defend the free inquiry of their colleagues.
- Contribute to the University’s collegial Christ-centered and service-oriented culture.
- Accept faculty responsibilities for the governance of the University.
Required Education and Experience
Austin Christian University faculty have the requisite academic credentials and have thorough and correct knowledge of their specific discipline and the ability to evaluate and apply content through the following:
- Master’s degree in the course subject or closely related field; Ph.D. preferred.
- Passion for Biblical higher education.
- Expert-level knowledge in the course subject.
- Excellent instructional skills with an understanding of curriculum development, assessment, and student learning goals and aims.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Comfortable with online learning systems, software, and grading systems.
- Ability to work with others in a fast-paced collaborative environment to creatively solve problems.
- Ability to self-start and take initiative.
