Job Title: Senior PostgreSQL DBA

Location: Bethlehem, PA or Holmdel, NJ (Hybrid - In office 2 days per week)

Must-Have Skills:

• 10+ years of PostgreSQL DBA experience.
• Expertise in implementing and maintaining security controls in highly regulated environments.
• Experience with PostgreSQL replication and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in SQL coding, shell scripting, and automation.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services (EC2 or RDS or Aurora) and cloud deployments using Jenkins, Bitbucket, and Terraform.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and a deep understanding of PostgreSQL’s underlying storage engines.
• Proven ability to manage common database procedures (backup, recovery, migration) and optimize server resource usage.
• Expert-level skills in PostgreSQL installation, configuration, patching, and performance monitoring in large environments.
• Commitment to SDLC/Change-Management principles and data quality practices.
• Experience with monitoring tools like ServiceNow, Zenoss, CloudWatch, and AppDynamics. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Job Summary: The company is seeking a Senior PostgreSQL DBA to provide operational support, design and build automated database systems, and lead key projects focused on database architecture, cloud deployments, and performance optimization. The role requires working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the stability, security, and performance of PostgreSQL databases across both data center and cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• On-Call Support and Incident Response: Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation, ensuring rapid and effective responses to database incidents and handling non-business hours changes.
• Database Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis: Diagnose and resolve PostgreSQL database issues, while performing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
• SLA Compliance: Process support requests within SLA timelines, following documented procedures and ensuring detailed incident documentation in ServiceNow.
• Standard Operating Procedures Documentation: Develop, document, and update SOPs and knowledgebase articles to enhance team processes and improve efficiency.
• Proactive Stability and Performance Improvements: Identify repeating alert trends, recommend infrastructure and automation enhancements, and optimize database performance.
• Project Leadership and Participation: Lead and contribute to initiatives such as cloud migrations, lifecycle management, performance tuning, and automation.

Desired Skills:

• Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across multiple infrastructure tiers.
• Experience automating administrative tasks through scripts and cron jobs.
• Familiarity with other database platforms (DB2, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB) and configuration management tools like SCCM, Puppet, or Ansible.
• Experience developing and enhancing training and upskilling programs.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
