Private family hiring direct support professionals for nonverbal person with autism. Some duties include community habilitation, training in independent self-care routines, and socialization. The family is also offering hours and pay for assistance with minor errands and pick up/drop offs. All are encouraged to apply; the family retains the right to terminate.

Job Summary: Help individual with personal self-care routines such as toothbrushing, showering and independent dressing and eating. Must be familiar with using reward systems when training children (example: First, brush teeth and then child receives the preferred item). Taking special needs individual to complete outdoor activities and weekly scheduled swim lesson. DSP’s must dress appropriately; short nails, non-dangle earrings, sneakers etc. Family is really looking for those who are willing to connect with their loved one and ready to work when they come in for their shift. More details and training are to be addressed upon hire.

Essential Functions:

· Effectively communicate with staff and stakeholders (e.g. schoolteachers, doctors)

· Provide supervision and respite in family’s home

· Implement goals towards managing behavioral issues or manipulating the environment to stop a problem behavior from occurring at home or within the community.

· Study persons nonverbal cues to effectively communicate when outside

· Must possess a valid driver’s license and willing to use personal vehicle.

· In general good health, can run and lift up to 50 lbs.

Special Requirements:

Demonstrate empathy and maturity when working with diverse individuals with disabilities, talking to the individual as you would another in a safe, professional setting and acknowledging them, including them in activities with you. Information regarding behaviors and current targeted goals will be explained during interviews and staff will receive training from both family and other staff members.

General Responsibilities:

· Facilitating a supportive environment for personal growth. Assist in daily living skills and socialization skills.

· Perform tasks like grocery shopping, meal planning, and coordinating with co-workers.

· Ensuring all cleaning supplies, electronics and clothing are stored away with all doors locked upon leaving shift. Doors are to constantly be checked and locked.

· Promote positive interactions within the community on your adventures.

· Complete required training.

· Must be able to pass a background check.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.

Experience in caregiving, community habilitation or experience in school systems

OR a related field.

Those with experience with DTT and community habilitation are strongly encouraged to apply although this is not a requirement.

Hours are flexible and shared between DSP’s. Extra hours may be available depending on needs of family.

Schedule varies depending on school hours of operation:

Monday-Friday 2:45pm-9:00pm

Saturday:

Sunday:

Pay: $ . - $ . per hour

· 4 hour shift

· 8 hour shift

· Day shift

· Evening shift

· Monday to Friday

· Weekends as needed
