Donation Services Coordinator

The Donation Coordinator supports the mission, goals and strategic plan of Nevada Donor
Network, Inc. (NDN) by providing accurate, efficient, and timely donor referral services for its stakeholders including but not limited to tissue processors, referring hospitals, coroner offices, and funeral homes. They will coordinate the donation of musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, ocular, and birth tissue through comprehensive medical screenings, advocate for patients awaiting lifesaving or life-enhancing gifts through discussing donation options and completing consent/authorization and medical history questionnaires with potential donor families and supporting tissue recovery logistics.
A successful Donation Coordinator provides quality customer service to all stakeholders and families, demonstrates attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. The Donation Coordinator is capable of handling any type of call in the Donation Services department. The Donation Coordinator position directly impacts the success of Nevada Donor Network by methodical determination of preliminary donor eligibility, providing potential donor families with a compelling reason to consider tissue/eye donation, and reviewing overall donor information to facilitate acquisition/recovery of tissues and corneas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions Statement(s):
- Provides exemplary customer service to all callers and stakeholders.
- Communicates effectively with all stakeholders to facilitate a positive donation outcome including but not limited to tissue and ocular recovery staff, funeral homes, coroners/medical examiners, state police departments and first responders, and hospital staff. Documents all interactions appropriately.
- Assesses donation potential by critically reviewing the patient’s clinical course and health history through use of electronic medical record access and following communication protocols with the hospital nurses and physicians in a professional, efficient, and precise manner.
- Obtains donation consent/authorization and medical history from grieving families, and/or expectant mothers/mothers of newborns, by providing emotional support and information on the benefits of donation, and documents appropriately according to established protocols.
- Effectively screens donor tissues with contracted tissue processors for approval according to established protocols.
- Effectively handles daily challenges:
- Successfully uses online databases to perform duties.
- Demonstrates attention to detail for accurate real-time data entry.
- Demonstrates effective decision-making skills:
- Makes daily independent decisions regarding donor eligibility with additional resources available 24/7 if needed.
- Analyzes, thinks through, and solves complex problems step-by-step.
- Looks beyond the obvious solution to a problem and uses innovative and creative thinking to find the best resolution.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills:
- Communicates well with people both verbally and written, at different levels, while potentially working in a remote environment.
- Successfully shares information with others while listening to and understanding their points of view
- Completes continuous training requirements to maintain proficiency and improve performance in a rapidly changing work environment.
- Complies with Nevada Donor Network’s Quality Systems and Corporate Compliance programs.
- Adheres to established attendance policy through regular and prompt attendance.
- Demonstrates strong, personal dedication to the mission of Nevada Donor Network.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Successful completion of a healthcare technical or professional program with
current certification such as Emergency Medical Technician, Critical Care Tech, Emergency
Room Tech, Intermediate or Licensed Practical Nurse, OR Hospital Corpsman, OR Associates
Degree from an accredited college/university in a relevant Science major/program such as
Biology, Chemistry, Social Work or Healthcare Administration. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience: One year of related work experience in organ, tissue birth tissue, and/or eye procurement may
substitute for education. MUST understand disease processes and medical terminology.
Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to Microsoft
Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and social media platforms. Minimal keyboarding/typing
skills at 45wpm.
Certificates & Licenses: May require AATB certification as a Certified Tissue Banking
Specialist within 3 years of employment. Must maintain AATB certification once achieved.
Other Requirements: Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills. English
language proficiency; a second language preferred. Required understanding of disease processes and medical terminology. Other requirements as assigned.
