SQL Server Database Engineer

18+ month renewable term contract. Likely to extend multi-year/option to hire.

Client: A major St. Louis based global corporation and a leader in their industry operating over 350 manufacturing facilities with annual revenue earning over $19 B and employing over 15,000.


Role:

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex database systems to support various applications and services.
  • Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and tuning.
  • Collaborate with software developers to design efficient database schemas and models.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive database documentation, including data dictionaries, ER diagrams, and procedures.
  • Conduct regular database performance monitoring and tuning to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues and provide technical support to development teams.
  • Stay current with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain SQL scripts for automation and deployment.
  • Utilize both database-first and code-first approaches to database development as appropriate.
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 8+ years work experience in the United States.
  • 8 - 10+ years of experience as a database developer or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in database technologies such as SQL Server.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience developing complex SQL queries.
  • Strong understanding of database design principles, data modeling, and normalization.
  • Experience with database performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Experienced in software development lifecycle and packaging database changes for C# or similar applications.
  • Knowledge of database security practices.
  • Familiarity with ETL (extract, transform, load) processes and tools.


Desired but not required:

  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with replication, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
