GIS Technician

Insight Global is looking for an entry level GIS Technician in Lutz, FL (north Tampa area), with any interest in learning the electrical power distribution & utilities engineering industry. This a 4 month contract-to-hire, meaning you will be converted full time (which includes PTO, Holiday Pay, etc.) after 4 months

The GIS Technician will support the maintenance and operation of client’s mapping and GIS applications by maintaining, reporting, and posting work or by gathering data to be inputted by others. This position will be expected to function independently with limited professional and technical supervision. This position may require contact with client engineers and management. This position is subject to supervision of progress, quality, and production. On a day to day, the GIS Technician is responsible for completing a set of jobs that meet the client’s quota. The tech will primarily be working independently but should be comfortable collaborating with team members with group projects and to stay up to date on any standards changes made by the client.

Minimum Requirements:

• Ability to work 40 hours a week, typical daytime hours in Lutz, FL - NOT PART TIME OR HYBIRD/REMOTE
• Valid Drivers License and reliable transportation (own vehicle preferred)
• Bachelors Degree; or Associates Degree plus 2 years of professional GIS experience
• 1 year of professional, internship, or educational coursework experience related to GIS
• Knowledge of any GIS related software/tools such as ArgGIS, ArcMap, 3GIS, G-Tech, Smallworld, etc.
• Strong computer literacy: will be taught to read and interpret design drawings of utility poles to generate and maintain GIS-generated operations maps
• Having an interest in learning about the power distribution & utilities design engineering industry utility terminology (transformers, kilowatts, voltages, transmission, etc.) - will be trained on industry specific terminology
