About Big Sun Solar

Big Sun Solar is a commercial and industrial (C&I) solar company providing turnkey rooftop, carport, and ground-mount solar PV systems to Texas businesses to help counter rising energy costs and meet corporate sustainability goals. Big Sun Solar is an industry leader trusted by prominent brands, including Vitesco Technologies, Safran Helicopter Engines, Cavender Auto Group, and Baywood Hotels, and has helped San Antonio become 5th in the nation for most solar megawatt installed. Job Responsibilities 
  • Designing preliminary layouts and final permit packages based on the potential client’s needs and building property specifications
  • Performing project calculations, component sizing, and overall electrical design for solar PV systems
  • Creating drawings of proposed systems, including solar carports, roof-top solar arrays, and ground-mounted solar arrays
  • Interpreting and comparing different solar interconnection options based on existing site conditions. 
  • Creating production models using PVSyst, Helioscope, and SolarAnywhere
  • Coordinating with utilities and AHJ on project design, permitting, and execution
  • Using AutoCAD and SketchUp to complete drawing sets in accordance with local AHJ requirements 
  • Comply with building codes, engineering practices, safety codes, regulatory codes, and NEC standards
  • Coordinating with other members of the engineering and sales team throughout the project lifecycle to ensure that designs are feasible and compatible with the property
  • Assist with system monitoring and performance analysis


QualificationsRequired
  • 4-year degree or equivalent practical experience, or other technical degree from an accredited college
  • 2+ years experience in the solar PV industry designing solar projects 
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree or completion of technical trade school in CAD, drafting, engineering, or related field may be substituted at the hiring manager’s discretion
  • AutoCAD proficiency in Engineering Drafting
  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Code
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Excel 
  • Experience with PVSyst and Helioscope



Preferred
  • NABCEP certification and/or EIT is a plus
  • Experience with commercial and industrial solar project design
  • Exceptionally organized, meticulous, and detail oriented
  • Proven ability to adapt and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments
  • Disciplined in time management and deadline driven
  • Skilled in adapting to requirements of numerous,  frequently changing project needs
  • Experience developing and reading technical documents and construction documents
  • Experience with Sketchup 3D rendering is a plus
  • Self motivated with an ability to manage multiple objectives


The ideal candidate will have a passion for solar PV, an interest in mitigating climate change, and a desire to build distributed solar resources across Texas utilizing innovative programs.
